Our greenhouse and seed raising workshop was held this morning at Aintree Community Garden. At this workshop, participants explored what made up a good seed raising mix and some of the challenges people face with seed raising at home, before making up a seed raising mix and planting summer crops for our new greenhouse and to take home themselves.

Today Jono spent time with some fantastic Grade 3 students at a local Melton School. This incursion taught the students about the features of a Habitat Garden, and got them to design a garden which provides native wildlife with shelter, food, water and a place to breed or nest. We are always blown away at how creative kids can be when given the chance!

This morning we hosted a workshop at Djerriwarrh Neighbourhood House on extending the season. We explore creating micro climates, discussed how to warm soil, create warm pockets of air, and protect our gardens from wind as we seek to grow more food at home

Grow At Home Ep 4 - Seeds, or Seedlings?

This is often a choice that people find tough… seeds are cheaper, but it will take longer to get a crop. Seedlings are more expensive but I get a head start on the season. But are there other factors you should be considering when deciding what to plant?
