Some homes sit next to the landscape.

The Lancewood sits inside it.

This is a Brigadoon farmhouse designed for a client who didn't want to look at the bush through a window - they wanted to feel like they were in it. Floor-to-ceiling windows run from the ground to the peak of the raked ceiling. The bush isn't the backdrop. It's part of the room.

What makes this one:
Raked ceilings that follow the full pitch of the roofline
Windows spanning the entire width of the main living space
Materials chosen to sit within the landscape rather than contrast it

A little piece of the Perth Hills we never get tired of seeing.

""It's just so unique, it's perfect - everything we wanted and so much more."

That's what the client said at handover. The Arton, Swan Valley.

The same year, the Housing Industry Association named it Custom Built Home of the Year.

The brief was specific: a facade that felt like a century-old Mount Lawley heritage home, transitioning into a modern family living space. The client came in wanting granite for the kitchen island. Ben showed them a uniquely veined Dekton stone that runs over three metres. They chose it on the spot. That kitchen became a national HIA finalist in its own right.

We don't mention awards to fill a caption. We mention them because when you're spending $1 million or more on a home, you deserve to know whether your builder's work has been independently assessed by the industry's peak body.

Ours has been. It held up.

Building in the Perth Hills isn't like building anywhere else.

Sloping blocks. Bushland. BAL ratings. Views worth actually capturing. Subsoil conditions that change from one end of a block to the other.

After nearly 40 years of building across Perth - and the last decade focused heavily on the Hills - here's what I know:

Orientation isn't optional. Get it wrong and you're fighting the sun and the cold for the life of the home.
A sloping block is an opportunity, not a problem. The builders who treat it as a problem produce homes that look apologetic about where they sit. We design to the slope.

BAL compliance doesn't have to compromise the design. Our Brigadoon builds are BAL-29 rated with raked ceilings, oversized glazing, and elevated pools. It's a planning challenge, not a design ceiling.
Timber framing gives you flexibility that brick and tile can't match. On a steep, rural, or bushland site — it's not just faster, it's better.

The view has to be part of the home. Too many houses sit next to a great outlook. We design from it.

This site sits on the escarpment, elevated above the valley. Every beam placement has been engineered with two things in mind: those panoramic views, and BAL-29 bushfire compliance. You don't have to choose between great design and a safe build.

What's going in:
