We recently had a homeowner contact us after having a solar and battery system installed by another company. They had been dealing with ongoing issues and felt that something simply wasn’t right.

They asked us to carry out an in-depth inspection and report and unfortunately, what we found was a long list of non-compliant, unsafe and poor-quality installation practices.

Some of the issues identified included:

⚠️ Insufficient clearances around the inverter and batteries
⚠️ Open conduits at sub-board penetrations
⚠️ Battery cabling unsecured and without adequate mechanical protection
⚠️ No multi-hole glands used for DC cabling
⚠️ Battery installed directly in front of the water mains, obstructing access
⚠️ Missing required labelling
⚠️ System repeatedly restarting
⚠️ System output inconsistent with a 16kW array
⚠️ Loose plugs and connections
⚠️ Conduit in the ceiling not glued, secured or labelled
⚠️ Incorrect panel clamping zones
⚠️ Cables not adequately secured
⚠️ Broken roof tiles and installation debris left behind
⚠️ Incorrect clamping hardware
⚠️ Solar panels installed hard-butted against each other

And this is just some of what we identified and unfortunately, this is something we see far too often.

Homeowners should be able to trust that the installation has been completed safely, correctly and to the required standards.

Doing your research, choosing a reputable installer and making sure you understand what you’re paying for can save you an enormous amount of stress down the track.

This homeowner is now facing a much bigger battle of trying to get these issues rectified - and believe us, it’s not a process you want to have to go through.

If you’ve had solar or batteries installed and:

🔎 Your system isn’t performing as expected
🔎 You’re experiencing repeated faults or shutdowns
🔎 You’re concerned about the quality of the installation
🔎 You’ve had ongoing issues with your installer
🔎 Or you simply want peace of mind that everything has been installed correctly

We can carry out an in-depth solar inspection and provide a detailed report outlining any issues identified.

Don’t wait until a problem becomes a much bigger and more expensive problem.

These old exhaust fans and power points had definitely seen better days! 🔥 From melted plastic to heat damage, it’s a good reminder that ageing electrical accessories can become a serious safety risk.

We’ve replaced them with new, safe, and reliable fittings, giving the homeowner peace of mind and a much safer electrical system.

If you’ve noticed discoloured power points, burning smells, crackling, or your exhaust fan is looking worse for wear, don’t ignore it. It could be time for an upgrade.

Are you smoke alarm compliant!

Mr Ham’s Electrical is based in Ipswich and services the Ipswich and surrounding areas.

If you own a home in Queensland, the countdown is officially on.

From 1 January 2027, every residential property must comply with QLD’s updated smoke alarm legislation - that means interconnected photoelectric alarms in every bedroom, hallways connecting bedrooms, and on every level of your home.

And here’s the part most people forget: November and December are chaos for electricians. Between end‑of‑year shutdowns, school holidays, and everyone trying to “squeeze in one last job”, bookings disappear fast.

Add in the fact that non‑compliance can cost you in fines, impact your insurance, and put your family at risk - it’s simply not worth leaving it until the last minute.

Get ahead now.
Beat the rush, stay compliant, and protect your home.

👉 Book your 2027 smoke alarm upgrade today.
