Spent 2 days at the Sanctuary at Coobowie on Narungga country (Yorke Peninsula) this past week, chasing box thorns - they are a W**d of National Significance and we have new ones raising their ugly heads across the old cropping field.

Was happy to see that probably 98% of what I found were *not* reshoots from old stumps but new and from fruit drop. Which to me says yes, more pain, but also yes, WE CAN DO THIS!

Here's some bad video narration by me at the end of day 1.... haha.

In 2 days I cut and swabbed.... 391 PLANTS!!! (From the tiny to the shoulder height. Yes I kept count!)

Cleaned up this pomegranate (especially the centre as you can see what it WAS like here in this photo) last week, love pruning.

Off to Yorke Peninsula Narungga tomorrow again as the weather plays nice. African Boxthorns to destroy!! Declared in SA but...
.. being a W**d of National Significance (WoNS) we're doing our bit to keep them at bay, luckily now these are new SMALL from previous fruit drop.

Originally they were HUGE.

Tyres checked, car filled.

Keeping up to date is important, and so is safe chemical use!

I'm at a refresher course today in the Adelaide Hills, because whilst I am a believer in IPM and IWM, large bush properties often do require some chemical use.

Spent some time this past weekend showing a dear friend all the work we have ahead of us at The Sanctuary at Coobowie.

Chasing African Box Thorns which are on the declared list and also the WONS (W**ds of National Significance) list. Majority of these were from seed drop from old bushes that have been killed in previous seasons.

We cut and swabbed 239 in the end, give or take. There are hundreds sadly. It will be one line at a time. We will find you dirty boxxies!

Their thorns are quite evil so you need to learn to work with them and take good care!

A great week with of lots of hand weeding, a bit of cutting and swabbing nasty reshoots and still more to do.

More rain seems to be coming next week, so it's all systems go until then!!

Have been happy to gift ruby salt bush, warrigal greens, wallaby grass and native geranium to clients, and also a small box to our local Save the Children Op shop for a bit of variety in their plants.

I'm off the tools for a few more days now dear clients and friends.

In my most graceful moment of the week, a driver pulled in front of the bus I was taking to get to the STOP THE CHOP rally on Weds evening. Bus driver slammed on the breaks. I had just stood up because my stop was next, and went flying down the middle of the bus, giving me some outstanding, um, equivalent of carpet burn but on a bus floor?! Plus a massive jolt that has now moved left to right through my body and owwwwww. Swelling starting to go down in left wrist but can feel the damage in there, still very tender.

Big thank you to the kind nurse who was also on the bus who took care of me, made sure I didn't smack my head, and stayed for the beginning of the rally gathering to make sure I was okay.

Trying not to get stabbed by box thorn, um, thorns, is our main OHS risk out here.

Felt great to be back at the Sanctuary at Coobowie for a few days hard work, cut and swab any box thorn reshoots found. About 60 total in 3 zones so far.

I'll be back soon. Really starting to feel my power coming back. Should have come back to Narungga country sooner.
