We're finally getting some better weather, which makes this a good time to walk around the property and see how everything survived winter.

Check your stormwater pits.

Look at where your downpipes discharge.

Have a look at those low sections of the yard.

Think about where the water actually went during the last heavy rain.

If the answer was "everywhere", you've probably got some drainage work to do.

A decent drainage system isn't particularly glamorous, but when the next Mid North Coast downpour arrives, you'll be very glad it's there.

Quick one from us because we see this more often than you'd think.

If you've had the same drain cleared two or three times, you probably don't have a "blocked drain problem".

You've got something causing the drain to block.

Could be tree roots. Could be damaged pipework. Could be a section that's moved or collapsed.

Clearing it gets things moving again, but sometimes that's only treating the symptom.

That's where cameras and proper diagnosis come in.

If the same problem keeps coming back, it's probably time to find out why.

That was a wet winter.

As properties start drying out around Port Macquarie, we're getting a clearer picture of what all that water has been doing.

Persistent wet patches, overflowing stormwater, damaged drainage and areas of the yard that simply don't recover can all point to problems worth investigating.

Spring is actually a great time to tackle this stuff.

The weather is improving, the ground is starting to dry and there's still time to get drainage sorted before the warmer season brings its own storms.

If winter exposed a weak spot around your place, let's sort it.

Nobody wakes up on Saturday morning excited about plumbing maintenance.

Fair enough.

But checking that little leak, fixing the dripping tap, clearing the slow drain or investigating the wet patch outside can prevent a much bigger problem later.

With household costs where they are at the moment, the last thing anyone needs is an avoidable plumbing bill because something small was allowed to become something big.

If you've got a few little jobs accumulating around the house, bundle them together and get them sorted.

Future you will appreciate it.

Plumbing isn't exactly the same everywhere.

Around Port Macquarie and the Hastings we work on everything from older homes with ageing underground pipes to newer estates with completely different drainage challenges.

Add our trees, coastal conditions and the amount of rain we've had lately and there are plenty of ways plumbing can keep you entertained.

Working locally means we've probably seen something similar before.

And when you're trying to work out what's happening underneath someone's house or backyard, experience counts.

Your hot water system should be one of the least interesting things you own.

You turn the tap and hot water appears.

That's the entire relationship.

If you've started thinking about your hot water system because it's taking longer to heat, running out halfway through the kids' showers or making noises from the side of the house, that's usually not a great sign.

We've still got some cold mornings ahead of us, so now isn't the ideal time to discover your system has reached retirement age.

Spring is brilliant around the Mid North Coast.

Everything starts growing again.

Including the things underneath the ground.

Tree roots are one of the most common causes of recurring blocked drains we deal with. A tiny opening in an older pipe can be enough for roots to find their way inside and, once they do, they'll happily keep growing.

If you've got a drain that's been cleared before but keeps blocking again, don't assume you've just got bad luck.

There may be something happening further down the line.

We can inspect it, find the cause and talk you through the options for fixing it properly.
