One of the 'extra things " I've trialled over the years growing African Violets is Mycorrhizae fungi. I am not a horticulturalist, though I've consulted many over the years, and from what I understand Mycorrhizae fungi, form a symbiotic relationship with the roots of African violets ( and many other plants) given the right soil medium and conditions.
Direct contact with the roots, while transplanting or repotting, is highly beneficial. It increases the uptake of nutrients and can help prevent or block pythium, and disease.
1. NB. Mycorrhizae is only beneficial in soil mediums, not in hydroponic ( water) mediums.
2. It will not work if you use a high phosphorus fertilizer in high concentrations to feed the plant. I use a low concentration: 1/4 TSP Orchid fertilizer to three litres of water either to water or in wick watering reservoirs, which is supposed to be ideal. (Read why elsewhere)
There are many brands online and yes it's pretty expensive, but like fertilizer, it lasts a long time.
Once fed, the colony of Mycorrhizae grows around the roots and you never need to use it more than once per plant.

"RS- Lake Fairy", ( not to be mixed up with "AV- Lake Fairy", this one has soft, pale blue, and powdery white double, flowers. I think this is one of the dreamiest African Violets. I almost lost this one moving house but managed to save it. It started flowering too soon, but I couldn't resist seeing these beautiful puffs of clouds. 💙🩵🩵🩵
