SILVERFISH

As we head towards winter, some people assume pests aren’t as common.

Standard pests like spiders, some external cockroaches might not be as much of a problem than in the warmer months but winter has its own challenges.

Pests such as rats, mice, ants, German cockroaches and fabric pests will still be problematic during the colder months.

Take today for instance, I went to do a rodent job and found silverfish within the property.

The reason for this is as we head towards the colder months, people start to put their heating on and the pests mentioned will gravitate towards properties because of this.

Ants will form nests in roof voids and wall cavities as will rats and mice to evade the colder and wetter months ahead.

Fabric pests and cockroaches love warmth and will breed normally during the colder months as heating is turned on.

RODENTS

Rodent activity is on the rise and will continue to rise once the colder and wetter weather arrives.

Your home or businesses will be very attractive to them as they’ll offer warmth and shelter from the winter weather.

Places like wall cavities (photo below shows mouse droppings in a clients wall cavity), roof voids and garages are the most at risk areas of any property and these areas will be the first to be affected by rodent activity.

If you’re hearing scratching noises at night in wall or roof voids then rodents have probably already entered your property.

Have an After Hours Pest Control Melbourne rodent inspection and treatment conducted and rid your property of these unwelcome visitors.

Autumn Pests.

Just a few pests I’ve seen over the last couple of days.

With this nice Autumn weather we’re experiencing at present, pests are still very active.

Pests like spiders, ants and cockroaches will still be seen externally but as we head towards the colder months they’ll start to invade the internal areas of your homes and businesses.

Ants and rodents could start to form nests within properties, cockroaches be seen dashing around garages or kitchens and carpet beetles, fabric pests and stored product pests will still be seen during the colder months.

FLYING AND CRAWLING INSECTS

This nice, sunny and warm Autumn weather has got flying insects like wasps 🐝 and general flies 🪰 more active.

Crawling insects like ants 🐜 and cockroaches 🪳 are also very active at present as are spiders 🕷️

Ants are still foraging for food and water and it’s also time for them to look for new nesting sites.

In this photo you can see the ants are carrying egg sacs and this is definitely proof that the nest is looking for a new site for the coming colder and wetter seasons ahead.

Wall cavities and roof voids are ideal areas for ants to nest as they’re lose to food and water sources and even though the ant in the photo is on a car and cars aren’t normally associated with ant nests, if they find a nice cosy spot with water and food close by then they’ll nest there as well.

Have an ant treatment conducted to remove the threat of ants nesting within your home or business.

FUEL PRICES

As we’re all aware the price of fuel is extortionate at present and is putting pressure on every household and business.

At After Hours Pest Control Melbourne we’ve been trying to absorb the rising costs of fuel and everything associated with it (including rising products).

We’ve made a decision to hold off on any fuel levy’s at this stage but can’t rule out any in the future if the cost of fuel and or products keep rising.

If you’re after any pest treatment conducted contact me ASAP to avoid any fuel levy’s that may be added in the future.

Jobs already booked in will be exempt from any fuel levy changes.
