Our current Accommodation Camp Project recently had the honour of hosting Theo Venter for an inspiring talk. During the talk, Venter recounted his personal journey following a workplace incident. Theo is the only person known to have survived 22,000 volts and 1,200 amps through the heart and lived to tell the tale. He provided our team with an in-depth look at how workplace culture dictates safety, breaking through many myths and misunderstandings associated with the safety industry.

We thank Theo for his raw and emotional presentation, which has deeply resonated with our team and further united us in our commitment to safety and Keeping Our Mates Safe.

We also thank the team for all their efforts and safety commitments to date.

🌟 Reward and Recognition 🌟

As part of our award-winning Keeping our Mates Safe (KOMS) Program, we proudly acknowledge employees who contribute innovative ideas to enhance safety and processes on our projects. Winners receive the coveted personalised Bobblehead statue along with a travel voucher.

We're thrilled to announce the KOMS award winners for 2023 Q3 & Q4!

👏 Congratulations to:

Braddon Fall (Nippa): While working as part of a Formworker Crew on our MSA Workshop Project, Nippa's quick thinking led to the creation of a protective heatproof box for a heat wand that arrived on-site without one. His innovation significantly reduced the risk of serious burns to workers.

Tristan Hodges: As an Apprentice Fitter at our Secure Energy Project, Tristan identified an opportunity to educate and remind our Operators on the burn-off or purging process for plant. This process safeguards the plant from damage and reduces the need for repairs.

Well done, Nippa and Tristan! 🙌

To all our teams: keep up the fantastic work! We look forward to seeing the innovative solutions you continue to develop to Keep Our Mates Safe!

International Women’s Day recognises the progress made towards achieving gender equality and reflects on the need for greater momentum in this space 🫶

Diversity and Inclusion are among our strategic pillars. One initiative linked to this strategic pillar is our sponsorship of the Contractors Federation WA Women in Construction Mentoring Program. This program has just concluded for the 2023-2024 period.

To further this commitment, we have recently launched the Entry-Level Female Operator Program, designed to support women entering the civil construction industry. Additionally, we have been working behind the scenes on an exciting initiative that will drive inclusion and psychological safety across all of our projects.

🎉 Successful Project Completion 🎉

In September 2023, Whittens was awarded a contract to complete construction of the pavement for an airport expansion project in the East Pilbara.

The scope included detailed earthworks, drainage, relocation of existing infrastructure, lighting and electrical connections, and 8700 square metres of pavement 🚜🚧

We mobilised to site in early October, with the challenge of completing these deliverables in short time frame of less than three months.

Efficiency of our programme was key to adhere to this tight schedule. Project Manager Damian Selby says, “An open and inclusive workplace culture was encouraged to ensure all team members knew their role and how they fit into the wider picture. We ensured everyone felt comfortable to speak up if unsure about anything at all.”

The project was delivered safely, on time, and with no disruption to airport operations. We were thrilled with the feedback we received from the client, advising that Whittens were professional and respectful, with our leaders on site demonstrating an exemplary level of enthusiasm and engagement.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the tender and the delivery of this project. We are incredibly proud of this team effort. A special mention to Senior Project Engineer Jackson Clark and Supervisor Chris Pacitti, who were there from start to finish and whose contribution was pivotal to our success.

The additional apron will enable our client to provide additional airline services during peak periods, supporting the future growth of their mine operations.

We look forward to completing more successful projects in the Aviation space! 🛫
