We’re celebrating 10 years of service by our Head of People & Culture Laurie Moran – a decade marked by growth, leadership and a genuine commitment to people.

Over the past 10 years, Laurie has grown alongside the business, developing into a key leader who has helped shape our culture, support our people and contribute to the continued success of Whittens.

Early in her career with Whittens, Laurie spent time working onsite in South Australia. The experience provided valuable insight into project delivery and the realities of site life, helping shape the practical and people-focused approach she brings to leadership today.

Now six years into her role as Head of People & Culture, Laurie is passionate about creating opportunities for people to grow, building strong leaders and ensuring Whittens remains a place where people can build rewarding careers.

Celebrating Dylan Jackson's 5-year milestone with Whittens 👏

Five years ago, Dylan Jackson joined Whittens as a Yardman in Newman, WA. Today, he is a qualified Mechanical Fitter working onsite across a range of projects, servicing everything from vibration motors to large dump trucks, dozers and cranes.

Dylan's journey is a great example of what's possible when hard work, ambition and opportunity come together. With a long-term goal of becoming a mechanic, he embraced every opportunity to learn and develop, progressing into a Heavy Diesel Mechanical Apprenticeship and achieving his trade qualification in late 2024.

When asked what has kept him at Whittens, Dylan points to the support of his leaders, the opportunity to keep learning, and the strong sense of mateship across our projects.

Plant Manager Glen Summerfield, describes Dylan as an exemplary employee:

Whittens Supervisor Steve Feery is proving that innovation and safety go hand-in-hand at one of regional NSW’s most complex infrastructure projects.

Recently presented with the Louise Whitten KOMS Award by Operations Manager Nick Kelly, Steve was recognised for his proactive approach to risk management and continuous improvement in a tunnel construction environment.

From designing engineered rack systems to keep emergency access clear and materials safely organised, to sourcing hydraulic lift table carts that reduce manual handling risks during traveller installation, Steve is constantly looking for smarter and safer ways to work.

His practical solutions are helping to eliminate the risk of back, strain and trip injuries while improving efficiency for crews working in underground conditions.

At Whittens, safety innovation isn’t just about systems - it’s about people like Steve who look out for their mates every day and keep pushing for better.

Today, we’re reflecting on more than 16 years of delivering major infrastructure across WA’s mining, resources, and defence sectors.

As a 100% Australian, family-owned civil contractor, Whittens is proud to have successfully delivered 31 major projects in some of the state’s most remote and challenging environments, representing more than $734 million in project value. From complex concrete structures and bulk earthworks to critical civil infrastructure, our WA legacy has been built on quality, safety, and the dedication of our skilled and passionate people.

Western Australia has played an important role in the Whittens story, and we look forward to continuing to deliver safe, high-quality outcomes for our clients and communities for many years to come.

Whittens supports the Cooma Rugby Union Football Club because the values of teamwork, resilience, mateship and looking after one another mirror the culture we build on our projects every day.

So, we were proud to attend the club’s annual Old Boys Day last weekend, hear from hilarious guest speaker and former Wallaby Justin Harrison, and watch the Red Devils deliver a dominant 48-12 win over the Yass Rams.

Regional clubs like the Red Devils are the backbone of country communities - bringing people together, building connection and creating a strong sense of pride on and off the field.

We’re proud to stand alongside the club and back the people who keep regional rugby thriving.

Meet Craig Fabar! From commercial concreting in Newcastle to now leading crews on one of Australia’s most iconic infrastructure projects, Craig Fabar takes every step of the career journey in his stride.

A long-term Whittens employee and keen runner, Craig has built his skills and experience across a range of projects and now as a Construction Foreman, he coordinates day-to-day works for the concrete crew. From planning pours with supervisors and engineers, liaising with the batching plant, and working closely with engineers and client QA teams, Craig works hard to ensure every pour meets the highest standards.

He says the real challenge working with concrete is that things don’t always go to plan, and it’s problem-solving under pressure that keeps the job interesting.

Why does he enjoy working with Whittens? “The culture is second to none. The mateship onsite is awesome - everyone helps each other out to make projects a success. I’ve made lifelong friends here.”

The Whittens value that resonates most with Craig is Passion - the shared drive, from top to bottom, to deliver quality work and have fun doing it.

Craig’s progression from concreter to foreman is a testament to the opportunities available at Whittens for those willing to learn, grow and bring passion to the job.

Meet Jason Hodnett!

Jason joined Whittens in 2017 as a formwork carpenter and didn’t stop there. With the opportunity to progress and develop his skills, he’s stepped up into leadership roles as a Leading Hand, Foreman, and most recently Supervisor on major infrastructure projects in WA’s Pilbara and regional NSW.

In 2023, he proudly completed his Diploma in Training and Assessing, further strengthening his career.

Says Jason: “I love working for Whittens - I work with really good people. I definitely feel part of the furniture here and am always supported and encouraged.”

Originally from Carrigtwohill in Cork, Jason lives in Baldivis in Perth and is a man of many interests. Whether it’s playing golf, DJ-ing, a game of darts (he once played the legendary world champion Phil "The Power" Taylor in an exhibition match!), or enjoying a good Guinness or two, he knows how to make the most of life.

We’re pleased to have Jason on our team - a great example of growth, mateship, and dedication at Whittens!
