Rise House.

A collaboration with Two Hammers Construction Pty Ltd , developed as a considered, buildable home with high-performance principles embedded from the outset.

The design is pre-planned to allow for the pursuit of Passive House certification if desired, without making it a requirement. Good orientation, a compact form and a clear thermal envelope do much of the heavy lifting from day one.

An older project, but still one we’re particularly fond of.

The design took cues from familiar Australian coastal homes: lightweight weatherboards, deep verandahs, pitched roofs and simple, robust materials. Rather than reinventing that language, the aim was to refine it into a contemporary family home that still felt relaxed and recognisable.

Threshold House explores how an addition can feel distinctly new without losing its connection to the existing home and its Subiaco setting.

A simple palette of brick and timber, generous volumes, and living spaces organised around the garden create a home that opens up without losing a sense of enclosure and warmth.

We've been a little quiet lately.

The last month has been a bit of a blur. We welcomed a new addition to the family, I’ve taken a little time away from the usual routine, and somehow Cynosure has managed to get busier at exactly the same time.

Behind the scenes, there’s been plenty happening. New projects kicking off, existing ones taking some big steps forward, and a growing list of work I’m looking forward to sharing.

After a few weeks of juggling family life, work and not quite enough sleep, I’m properly back on deck from Monday.

Plenty has happened. Plenty to catch up on.

Sometimes the best design decisions happen after the drawings are complete.

A late shift to a Shou Sugi Ban-inspired cladding transformed the feel of Tranquility House, bringing depth, contrast, and a stronger connection to its bushland setting.

A reminder that materiality can be just as powerful as form.

A series of framed volumes arranged around light, landscape, and privacy.

Developed in close collaboration with our clients, the home is composed as a collection of interconnected spaces rather than a single dominant form, creating moments of compression, release, and connection throughout the day.

Deep reveals help balance openness with retreat, while a restrained material palette allows light and shadow to become part of the architecture itself.
