As a pre-election commitment, the Australian Labor Government is set to introduce a national rebate for solar batteries, reducing the cost of a typical battery by 30%*.

The $2.3 billion Cheaper Home Batteries Program is expected to fast track the installation of one million new batteries by 2030 and make clean energy more affordable for Aussie households 💫

Sometimes innovation is hard to explain, but in this powerful story by ABC Australia journalist, Daniel Mercer, the role of Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) in shaping Australia’s energy future is clear.

A VPP is a network of distributed energy resources (DER), in our case household solar + battery systems, that is managed remotely to transfer energy to and from the grid.

It is undisputed; VPPs have a critical role in stabilising our grid.

Daniel interviews Plico Chief Technology Officer George Martin, and Plico member Pippa Buchanan from Cowaramup in regional Western Australia, to understand how our VPP helps support grid stability, and how Plico members benefit financially.

VPPs balance supply and demand on the grid. Whether it’s peak energy demand on hot summer afternoons or an oversupply of energy when solar exports are high, VPPs provide a solution.

We are proud to have the largest network of solar + battery systems in WA with a community of almost 3000 members.
