Quick question for anyone who's used w**d and feed on their lawn: Did it actually fix the w**ds? Or did you end up with a lawn that looked kind of average on both fronts? πŸ€”

Here's the thing: w**d and feed products require the w**ds and the fertiliser to be in exactly the right condition at the same time. On Perth's sandy soils, that almost never happens. Water in to activate the fertiliser, and you wash the herbicide off the leaf. Don't water in, and the fertiliser leaches straight through before the roots can use it.

And if you've got Sir Walter Buffalo, many w**d and feed products can cause real damage. Yellowing, leaf burn, long-term injury. It's not worth the risk 🚫

Two separate products. One dedicated broadleaf herbicide, one dedicated fertiliser. 20 minutes more. Significantly better results on both.

We've put together the full guide for Perth lawns here πŸ‘‡

W**d and feed sounds like a convenient shortcut β€” one product, two jobs, done. But on Perth's sandy soils it's rarely the best answer. Here's why a dedicated broadleaf herbicide and a dedicated fertiliser almost always produces better results.

Fresh turf needs a little extra love while those roots establish! πŸŒ±πŸ’¦

For the first few weeks, your watering routine is really important. Start with frequent watering, then gradually reduce as the roots grow deeper and the lawn becomes established.
πŸ’¦ Days 1–3: Morning & evening β€” saturate the soil to around 100mm.
πŸ’¦ Days 4–10: Once daily in the morning β€” 25–30mm.
πŸ’¦ Days 11–21: Every 2–3 days β€” 25–30mm, checking the soil first and skipping if it’s still moist.
πŸ’¦ Day 28 onwards: Move towards your normal watering restrictions β€” generally 2 days a week, 25–30mm per session, gradually reducing as the lawn establishes.
🌱 Tip: Check the soil moisture before watering and gently lift a corner of the turf to see how the roots are progressing. Once the turf has rooted well, you can transition to deeper, less frequent watering.
New turf = frequent watering while establishing. Established turf = deeper watering, less often. πŸ’¦πŸŒ±

Lawns don't look great in spring by accident.
They got ready in August.

Your five jobs for this month:
βœ… First fertilise since June
βœ… Aerate (ground is soft, timing is perfect)
βœ… Wetting agent before dry patch sets in
βœ… Clear out the last of the winter w**ds
βœ… Start lowering your mowing height

Skip these, and you'll be chasing your lawn all summer. Do them this weekend, and it basically runs itself from October onwards.

Full guide here πŸ‘‰

August is the turning point for Perth lawns. Winter is ending, soil is warming and your lawn is about to start pushing new growth. Get these five tasks done this month and your lawn will be ahead of the curve come September.
