CLASS 2 CONFINED AQUIFER BORE | CLARAVALE ESTATE, HILBERT
Rig 2 has recently completed another Class 2 confined aquifer production bore targeting the Leederville Aquifer at Claravale Estate, Hilbert.
Drilling & Aquifer Assessment
A 101 m pilot hole was drilled to investigate the stratigraphy and assess the available aquifer zones. Geophysical logging was subsequently undertaken to identify the most suitable water-bearing formation.
Logging identified a fresh-water zone between approximately 70–83 m, providing the basis for the final screen design.
Bore Construction
A 12 m length of 200 mm stainless steel screen was installed across the identified aquifer interval, extending to 83 m.
The screen was gravel packed before a cement grout seal was placed back to surface, providing an effective annular seal and isolating the targeted confined aquifer.
Development & Testing
Following completion of bore development, the well was test pumped at 15 L/s.
The bore produced approximately 15 L/s with only 5 m of drawdown, demonstrating strong aquifer response and excellent bore performance.
This project highlights the importance of accurate aquifer assessment, geophysical logging and appropriate screen placement when constructing confined aquifer production bores.
Our team provides Class 2 confined aquifer drilling services throughout the Perth metropolitan and surrounding areas, from Carabooda and the Swan Valley through to the southern corridor around Mundijong.
