General entitlements under the Building Services (Complaint Resolution and Administration) Act 2011 allows a person to make a complaint about defective building work. The complaint can be made to the Building Commissioner about a regulated building service not being carried out in a proper and proficient manner, or for being faulty or unsatisfactory.

The regulations state that the complaint may be made by a person whose interests are being, or have been, adversely affected by the carrying out of the regulated building service. This would protect a subsequent purchaser of a home.

The cost of a granite benchtop can vary, ranging from $600 to $2,000 per square meter, which includes installation.
However, it's important to note that the cost may fluctuate based on factors such as the thickness of the benchtop, its color, the size and height of the kitchen, site accessibility, and location.

To those considering kitchen or laundry renovations, or anyone thinking of changing their benchtop, AVOID using engineered stone.
It's crucial to be mindful when selecting an engineered stone benchtop since it will be deemed illegal to use this product after July 1, 2024. For contracts signed before 13 December 2023 transitional arrangements may apply to allow for the use and installation of engineered stone after 1 July 2024.

Various alternative benchtop products are entering the market, providing homeowners with different options.

WA Premier Mark McGowan has announced a 3 day hard lockdown from 12:01am Saturday 24th April for the Perth and Peel region.

Masks will be mandatory from 6:00pm Friday 23rd April.

The lockdown requires that all people stay at home except:

•to attend work because they can't work from home or remotely;
•to shop for essentials like groceries, medicine and necessary supplies;
•for medical or health care needs including compassionate requirements and looking after the vulnerable; and
•to exercise one hour per day

During the lockdown any person leaving their home will be required to wear a mask at all times, including at workplaces and on public transport.

Can building sites stay open?
Yes. As was the case during the lockdown in February this year, building sites were deemed to be ‘essential’ and as such can remain open during this lockdown period. This also applies to renovation activity.

Can display homes stay open?
No. Display homes must stay closed for the duration of the lockdown.
