#1 Double glazing won’t be as effective if you have poor insulation in your home.
Double glazing will still help reduce heat transfer and outside noise, but if your home has poor insulation or gaps elsewhere, you may not experience its full potential. Heat and sound can simply find other ways in.
Improving your windows can make a big difference, but addressing other weak points can help you get the most out of your double glazing.
#2: Same quote ≠ same product.
Check what’s included in your quote. Not all double glazing is the same. For example, some companies charge extra for Low-E glass At ARCO, Low-E is a non- negotiable because of the difference it makes to thermal performance. So don’t just compare the final price, compare what you’re actually getting.
And if someone tells you the price increases when they walk out your door, that's something we'd question…
#3 A great window still needs a great installation.
You can invest in high-performance double glazing, but if it isn’t measured, fitted and sealed correctly, you may not get the performance you paid for.
Gaps and poor sealing can allow draughts, heat and noise to travel through, reducing the performance you invested in.
One red flag to look out for is if there’s condensation or fogging *between* the two panes of glass.
Consider who’s installing your them and what support you’ll have if something goes wrong.
