All profits from the Solar Dwellings Bus Tour on 11 October go to , supporting people like Annes.
At 25, Annes Kampini, a mother of two, rebuilt her family’s future after marrying at 19 when her parents struggled and her father left for work in South Africa. With no money for fertiliser, her crops failed and she survived mostly on casual labour. “We had a poor harvest every time because we could not afford to buy fertiliser. It was a big struggle,” she says.
In 2024 she joined a community savings and support group run by The Hunger Project. She learned new planting methods, how to diversify crops, and to use goat manure as a low-cost fertiliser. She also received five goats through a pass-it-on initiative and will pass the same number of offspring to another family.
Using manure and new skills, Annes began irrigating in winter instead of relying only on rain. She recently harvested cabbage and now has tomatoes in her field. Her next goal is to increase yields to keep her children in school and secure her family’s future.
