If your grout and silicone are still structurally sound, sealing is often the right call rather than a full replacement. A professional tile and grout seal reinforces the existing surface, closes off the microscopic pores that grout naturally has, and buys meaningful time before a full regrout becomes necessary.

The floor is the hardest-working part of any shower, and it's usually the last part people think to check.

Every drop of water that hits the walls or screen ends up on the floor eventually, which means the floor grout takes more sustained water exposure than anywhere else in the shower. It's also where hairline cracks are easiest to miss, because you're standing on it rather than looking closely at it.

This floor had been quietly letting water through for a while before it was picked up. A full floor regrout replaced the grout across the entire floor and resealed it properly, rather than patching the section that looked worst.

WA's summers are hot and dry for a lot longer than most of the country, and that has a direct effect on the silicone in your shower.

UV exposure through bathroom windows and skylights, combined with sustained heat, dries out silicone faster than in cooler, more humid climates. It goes brittle before it visibly cracks, and brittle silicone loses its seal well before it looks like it's failed.

The floor of a shower takes more wear than the walls, and the area around the drain takes more than the rest of the floor.

Constant water pressure, the slight movement of the drain fitting over time, and foot traffic all concentrate at the same point. Grout around drain surrounds cracks and wears back sooner than elsewhere, and from above the gaps often aren't visible until you know what you're looking for.

When the drain area is the problem, the fix isn't the drain in isolation. The surrounding floor tiles are affected by the same pressure and movement, and a proper waterproof restoration means addressing the floor as a whole. That's usually a partial or full shower floor regrout — the approach that holds the seal across the entire surface and comes with our 10-year waterproof warranty.
