So they were given an emergency number on a weekend, at 23:00 and they chose to send a text for a quick response...
"Hi I been given this number as a contact for emergencies. I've been locked out my apartment on Boas gardens Wellington st and need to get access. Can you please call me asap please."

It's 5:20 am, I'm making my way to a 5:30 rendez- vous with Boarder Force, they called me the night before to book-in a job, they need a locksmith on Stand by for a job in the morning.
The instructions are always vague, as is with all my work with law enforcement. I guess they don't want to tip off Joe - Bad guy the less you know the better it is for them. Usually starts with, as I rock up a Police officer comes up to me and says "now this is the situation" I loath those five words. Especially when it's set in a condescending manner as if there's nothing to worry about, right hang on a minute. You guys all have guns. You're all wearing bulletproof vests and here I am a little old with zero protection. Yeah I'm bothered by "this is the situation" lol
I rock up to the meeting point sooner 50 meters from the intended address where we meet for a quick briefing. Basically I told the line if Joe bad guy doesn't open the door then I'm called in. It's exciting in a way. Very much like the movie as I pull up. The agents are adorning their blue gloves. I'm a bit jealous because their gloves match their uniform. Mine are black slick like. Look good but don't quite match my blue uniform. Note to self, source blue gloves.
Six agents get out of their cars and in a single file make their way to the attended address. I follow my instructions and toe the line, seriously underdressed in my 1970s Australian footy short shorts, and polo shirt in typical tradie blues with black gloves. 🤦
As we approach the house we passed by the gate leading to the backyard. I quickly noticed a small padlock on the lock, meaning there's no way we're going in there without making some noise. A security door and a lever handle I can see from the neighbor's units. I'm guessing a minute and a half at best for me to break in the two locks. Maybe three if there's a deadbolt.
It's taking me years to convince law enforcement. It's cheaper, quieter and easier to use a locksmith than to smash down doors, especially ones that open out.
BANG BANG BANG!!! ✊ The head man bangs on the door yelling " Boarder Force we have a warrant open up !!" . I'm sure by now, jo-bad guy is sh****ng their pants, too late! I've noticed there are extra agents in the back as well, no where to go.
Jo-bad guy ( alleged ) appears in the window, I'm crouched down behind their four-wheel drive to keep my anonymity. Been on jobs before where things didn't go so well with Jo-Bad guy yelling out the name of my company and number yelling out death threats as he's being hauled off in handcuffs, as if I'm the one behind the arrest. Lol
The door finally opens, up 5 minutes have lapsed since the rude awakening, plenty of time to flush drugs down the drain if that's what they're looking for.
The door opens, the agents pour inside. With in minutes I see them making an arrest, when one of the officers comes out and thanks me and says " my services are no longer needed today, send us the bill."
I grab my gear and head home... Another day in the life of a locksmith...
It's not been a crazy 5 days over the holiday, from screaming drunk clients ( story to follow ) to crazy robberies with happy endings. To good laughs with my clients. ( non sexual ) This is one that comes up all to often.

Comme on you DYI's do some research before you put you and your family's lives on your hands.
Whilst I understand why people want to do things themselves, everyone trying to save money, if a unit is sealed, it's sealed for a reason. This cost her $150 more then it had too.
Locks are designed to break, if your door doesn't open forcing it won't help, only make it more expensive to fix.

My 3rd domestic violence call out in one month, where my client (the victim) took back their abusive partner after they were released from jail, thus Canceling the VRO they just took out, only to get beat up again sometimes worse than the first time as now the EGO is involved and having to change the locks a second time or for the first time.
The photos they send me of themselves after the fact are not pretty.
It's hard when you love your partner specially if they're the parent of your children.
Letting them comme back the next day is not a good move, as the answer can still be lingering. My advice (that is rarely taken) is to follow the restraining order, avoid contact for art least a month, insist they they take an anger management course.
One off violence from either party, should not be tolerated.
Seek help before it's too late.

I get a call at 4:30 AM gentlemen can't enter his warehouse, he has a key but the handle won't open the door.
He Has a Lockwood 930 very common problem.
I Figure, I'm in-and-out of there and maybe 20 minutes.
I get there yes the handle functions properly but will not retract the latch. The 930 latch is probably the best on the market.
After struggling for a good 20 minutes more than anticipated. I get the door open. Upon opening the door there's a bin in the way, the owner has to work his way around a garbage bin to turn off the alarm.
I proceed to change the lock scratching my head as to why the door wouldn't unlock. There is wear and tear but the door should have still opened. Turns out one of the employees likes to play practical jokes. He's placed the bin in front of the door and closed behind him not realizing the bin Was a bit too close to the door.
This joke cost $645. I'm not sure he got the equivalent in laughs.
This guy stepped out on to a six inch balcony to have a smoke, when he close the door, he realized the door had no snib on the outside to get back in, long 3 hours lol.
Some tradies, you get what you pay for.
Locksmith shops in Africa are different then anywhere I've ever been, with the exception of 🇲🇺 Mauritius

this is a serious glass door lock
The importance of having the job done right, from the beginning. Whilst it might have taken a while to fail, it eventually did, had it been installed correctly it would have lasted much longer.
Called to a job to Rekey a restaurant, we were told customer absconded with out paying.
He had lawyers letters and emails, so we did the job.
Next day owner calls back, says he needs us out again as the tenants came back opened and rekeyed the locks. 🤔🤔 Doesn't sound like they left??
The locksmith ignored all the warning signs on the windows,
They're heaps of dodgy locksmiths out there.
The owner asks me to open the doors, but doesn't have the proper paper work to allow me to do my job.
When you lease your property out it's no longer yours, if they don't pay the rent you need to go to court and get a court order to get your place back.
So meanwhile the owner furious with me, gives his son the order to break the window, rock after rock the kid keeps missing the target and breaks windows left and right lol
Finally I get into my van and drive off.
Only to be called back the next day to charge all the locks again after the tenants finally vacated the property.
