The Noongar season Djilba (August - September) symbolises the growth of wildflowers and plants.

This is the start of the massive flowering explosion that happens in the South West. Beginning with the yellow flowering plants such as the acacias. Djilba is a transitional time of the year, with some very cold and clear days combining with warmer,rainy and windy days mixing with the occasional sunny day or two.

Our Principal Designer Robert Kirkovski found his love of architecture from strolling the streets of Mount Lawley on the way home from school.

“Instead of taking the same route, I’d mix it up, exploring different streets around the inner city and admiring the houses along the way. Even now, I still enjoy taking walks through different neighbourhoods, fascinated by the variety of architecture.”

Today, Rob’s favourite part of the job is creating home designs that are quintessentially Western Australian. “Crafting this distinct identity brings me immense joy,” he says.

It may be the coldest and wettest time of the year, but the Noongar season of Makuru also brings with it an abundance of flora and fauna.

On lakes and rivers around WA, you'll start to notice the black swans, as they prepare to nest and breed. Flowers that will start to bloom include the blues and purples of the blueberry lily and the purple flags.

Towards the end of the season, you should also start seeing the white flowers of the weeping peppermint.

We Understand.

It was the Rural Building Company’s insight and understanding of people’s needs that led it to become the unique building company that it is today. The company’s original designs date back to 1992 and the beginnings of the ‘tree change’ movement as people turned their backs on the city and urban values to move to the country. The Rural Building Company was quick to recognise the need for a product that reflected their values and desire for individuality. Today, those same values are reflected in the company’s product. A product equally at home in both rural and urban environments.

Our home designs are available as far north as Kalbarri, Esperance in the Lower Great Southern, Augusta in the South West, east in the Avon and Upper Great Southern and everywhere in between.
