Older electrical switchboard panels and meter panels were manufactured from asbestos/resin or asbestos coal tar pitch composite. These asbestos products had brand names such as Zelemite, Lebah, Ausbestos, and Miscolite. These usually have a smooth finish on the surfaces which are dark brown to black in colour and also have a strong tar or bituminous smell to them.

If this looks like your switchboard or your board contains one of the names above then its time for an upgrade.

Not only is the asbestos dangerous to breathe in when broken but old fuses are hazardous, brittle and require rewiring each time they blow.

I currently have a contract changing meters for Western Power and it is a great role for someone who is financially ambitious and doesn’t want to do FIFO or get in the roof anymore. I supply a company car and pay well on a per meter basis, the more you do the more you make and superannuation on all turnover. If you or anyone you know is interested please let me know ASAP.

A position is available for a WA A Grade Electrician to conduct meter exchange works for the Western Power project. The contract will be casual with full time hours provided, and the potential to make great remuneration.
