National Reconciliation Week 2026: Time to go All In. (27 May – 3 June)

This significant week connects two historic milestones. On 27 May, we remember the 1967 referendum when 90% of Australians voted for Indigenous recognition. On 3 June, we honor the 1992 Mabo decision, which rightfully acknowledged Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners of this land.

For our community here on Noongar Country, you can still get involved in local events happening tomorrow, Wednesday 3 June: Morning Tea & Conversation: Learn with Patricia Ryder at the Old Perth Boys' School (10:00 AM)

Reconciliation in Conversation: Hear from Narelda Jacobs OAM at AH Bracks Library in Melville (6:45 PM)

Check out the complete lineup of local events at www.reconciliationwa.org.au

On 21 April, Kardan welcomed Federal Minister Andrew Giles and Federal Member for Swan Zaneta Mascarenhas to site, following their interest in the Aboriginal upskilling partnership between Kardan and Wilco Electrical (WA) Pty Ltd.

They met with apprentices, trainees and trade assistants, hearing directly about their pathways, ambitions, and day-to-day experiences on site. The message throughout was clear: real opportunities are creating real careers.

The “20 by 2020” initiative was established by Wilco Electrical with a goal to support 20 Aboriginal apprentices into the electrical industry. Kardan has contributed to this vision through employment and training pathways in construction.

Through our ongoing partnership with Wilco Electrical, we continue to:
• Support structured, long-term career pathways
• Build culturally safe and inclusive workplaces
• Strengthen participation across the construction workforce
• Invest in the next generation of skilled professionals

Thank you to Minister Giles and Ms Mascarenhas for taking the time to engage with our team.

At Kardan, we’re proud to be building more than projects; we’re building people, careers, and a stronger industry.

Construction still has one of the lowest female participation rates of any industry, but that doesn’t mean it has to stay that way.

Yesterday was International Women’s Day — a moment to recognise the incredible contributions women make across every industry, including construction.

At Kardan, we’re proud to be . Women represent approximately 22% of our team, and 11 women are working in site-based roles across our projects.

Across Australia, however, the numbers tell a different story. Women make up only around 13% of the national construction workforce, and participation in trade and on-site roles sits at just 4–5%.

In Western Australia, female participation across construction sits at around 18%, meaning our representation continues to exceed both state and national averages.

This hasn’t happened by accident. It’s the result of deliberate hiring, genuine career pathways, and a culture that backs capability.

As an industry, we still have a long way to go. That’s why we remain committed to raising awareness, advocating for underrepresented groups, and creating meaningful opportunities for women in construction — on site, in supervision, and in leadership roles.

We were deeply honoured to be referenced in the Prime Minister’s Closing the Gap address at Parliament House.

To have our work acknowledged in a national address is incredibly meaningful — not because of recognition, but because of what it represents.

In his address, Anthony Albanese spoke about how education, employment, housing, and health are all connected. Progress in one area helps drive progress in others.

That message matters.

The speech highlighted the journey of Kardan Co-founder and proud Whadjuk-Yued Noongar man Frank X Mitchell whose own electrical apprenticeship formed the foundation for business ownership and community leadership, reflecting that principle in action. But this was about more than one person.

Closing the Gap is about long-term change. It’s about creating real pathways — culturally safe workplaces, meaningful apprenticeships, leadership opportunities, and sustainable employment.

When we create opportunity, we don’t just create jobs.
We strengthen families.
We support communities.
We influence generations.

We are proud to stand alongside leaders who recognise that employment and education are powerful drivers of health, wellbeing and economic participation.

This moment is not a milestone — it’s a reminder of the responsibility we carry. And we remain committed to doing the work.

This is what it is all about. Not the awards, but the opportunity to raise awareness that business and social impact should go hand-in-hand and the results can be life changing.

Huge congratulations to Bridgetown's Serenity Gully for being named Australia's Best Glamping Destination at the Luxury Travel Awards!

We were honoured to be part of Phase 1, bringing these incredible glamping experiences to life. We’re already loving the ongoing collaboration with Serenity Gully and Bilyaa Architectural Design as they embark on Phase 2 including 2 new luxury chalets and a boutique community room.

The renders already speak for themselves, and the future looks extraordinary. Here’s to creating places people fall in love with from concept, to design, to reality.
