Merrett Logging is looking for an experienced heavy vehicle mechanic to join our growing team in the Green Triangle Region.

If youโ€™re a qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic or have strong experience working on forestry or heavy diesel equipment, we want to hear from you.

๐Ÿ”ง ABOUT THE ROLE
Working across our modern forestry fleet, youโ€™ll be responsible for servicing, diagnosing and repairing a range of industry-leading machines both in the field and workshop.

Key responsibilities include:
โ€ข Troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic and electrical systems
โ€ข Performing preventative maintenance and diagnostics
โ€ข Supporting operators and working closely with management
โ€ข Maintaining high safety standards across all tasks

โœ… ABOUT YOU
โ€ข Trade qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic or similar experience
โ€ข Strong understanding of hydraulics and diesel-powered machinery
โ€ข Forestry or heavy equipment experience highly regarded
โ€ข Positive attitude and ability to work within a team environment

This week, Merrett Logging was fortunate to host contractors from across Australia, alongside representatives from John Deere in Finland, America and Australia, to showcase the new H Series Harvesters and Forwarders.

The new H Series brings together smarter connectivity, advanced automation and data-driven technology designed to improve productivity and performance out in the field.

It was a proud moment for Merrett Logging, the people we employ and the forestry industry as a whole. It was fantastic to bring so many passionate people together to share ideas, experiences and the future of forestry.

Weโ€™re proud to welcome a brand new 2025 John Deere 2510H Forwarder to the fleet โ€“ the first model used for production in the world.

Built for modern forestry and Green Triangle conditions, this machine brings serious performance and operator comfort to the job.

We are pumped to have Vernon Mansell taking the helm. Vernonโ€™s experience and attention to detail make him the ideal operator for this machine, and we know heโ€™ll make it hum.

A big thanks to everyone involved in getting this unit on site

After 18 years with Merrett Logging, today weโ€™re saying farewell to one of our own.

Tyson started with us in 2008 as a heavy vehicle apprentice โ€” our very first apprentice โ€” and has grown with the business every step of the way. Not only did he complete his trade, he backed it up with a second trade in Automotive Electrical, continually building his skillset and becoming one of the most knowledgeable technicians in our team.

Over the years Tyson has come to understand our fleet inside out. From John Deere equipment and Waratah harvesting attachments through to fitting our Guardian safety systems, his training, attention to detail and problem-solving ability have played a huge role in keeping our operation running safely and efficiently.

More than just a super smart technician, Tys has been part of countless milestones at Merrett Logging. A tragic horse owner and punter with plenty of stories (itโ€™s like something you would see on blue heelers or something) and a genuinely cracking bloke to have in the shed and in our management team.

While heโ€™s decided to move into a different career path, he leaves with our full respect and appreciation. We wish him nothing but success in his next chapter and thank him sincerely for everything heโ€™s given to the business over the past 18 years.
