I Thought that I would throw a spanner in the works about the announcement by Anthony Albanese this week that his government is going to build 1.2 million homes over 5 years to help ease the current housing crisis.

Let us put that in perspective.
1.2 million home over 5 years represents 240k house builds per year, or 657 per day.

Our average over 40 years has been 160k house builds per year, or 438 per day.

We would need to increase our construction rate by 33% per annum - not likely given the material and labour shortages that the building has faced over the past 3 years and not getting better.

Most of our new homes are built by private builders.
Our largest nation home builder, Metricon, built 6052 homes last year or 16.5 per day.
We are going to need a lot more Metricons if we are to reach the farcical figure of 240k homes per year.

In queensland we are currently receiving a net migration rate of 40k people per year....yet our net construction of new homes was only 34775k.

A 13% figure is needed in the Queensland figures just to catch up with migration let alone any other aspirational figures that have a two R rating;
Reactionary and Rubbery.
One can only wonder where the academic boffins pulled these figures from.

As a person involved in the industry we are experiencing material shortages and constant rising costs and the big doosey, you guessed it, a shortage of skilled trades.

Our Government is out of touch in this arena and in my opinion is giving false hope.

Fraud alert!

We have been made aware of a scam utilising the ONEFLARE website and possibly others. A fraudulent entity is contacting customers and representing themselves to be us. They are sending out invoices to 'book' the work.

They are not real!

We will never invoice you without meeting you face to face.
QBCC law requires us to have a contract for any work exceeding $3300 inc GST.
QBCC law prohibits us from invoicing more than 5% deposit for jobs over $20k and 10% for jobs under.

We will attend your site in person.
We will provide you with a concept and price.
If acceptable, we will proceed to contract.
You will not be invoiced for construction work prior to signing a contract to 'book' the job.

This is the required process for other builders as well, and we can assume there are other legitimate businesses being misrepresented by scammers also.

Don't get caught out by the scammers. Always meet with your builder before you pay any money.
