What does non-combustible actually mean?

Fletcher Insulation's Pink® Batts®, Soundbreak® and Pink® Partition glasswool insulation products are classified as non-combustible and have been tested in accordance with AS 1530.1, where a sample is exposed to temperatures of approximately 750°C under controlled conditions.

To achieve a non-combustible classification, the material must satisfy strict performance criteria, including no sustained flaming and a maximum temperature rise of 50°C. The glass fibres themselves remain stable and do not support combustion under the conditions of the test.

For specifiers, builders and installers, non-combustibility is one of several important performance characteristics to consider alongside thermal performance, acoustic performance and the requirements of the building application.

Looking for an R2.7 90mm thick wall batt to support your next build?

Made by Fletcher Insulation, Soundbreak® R2.7 combines the thermal performance that can help achieve the minimum 7 Star Residential Home Energy Rating – and in many cases exceed it – in selected Australian climate zones, with high acoustic performance.

When incorporated into an appropriately designed building envelope, it helps create more energy-efficient, quieter and healthier homes.

Suitable for external walls, internal walls and floors in residential applications.

With the release of NCC 2025, Fletcher Insulation has developed two Technical Bulletins to help industry understand the updated requirements for pliable building membranes in external walls and condensation management considerations for ventilation of roof spaces.

Key changes include:
– Condensation management provisions for external walls now apply across all Climate Zones
– Drained and ventilated cavities are now defined and mandatory in Climate Zones 6–8
– Roof ventilation requirements now provide separate provisions for pitched roofs and raked/cathedral ceilings, alongside updated ventilation opening requirements
