Our directors are not behind a desk.

Chris and Stuart are on site, across every project, at every stage. That's not incidental - it's the way is built to operate. When the people responsible for the standard of the work are present throughout the process, problems get resolved faster, decisions get made with more context, and the level of care applied to every detail stays consistent from the ground up.

It's the difference between a building company and a builder who takes ownership.

Building a custom home in inner Melbourne is a different challenge entirely.

At in Prahran, excavation and piling for the basement is underway on a site where space is at a premium: neighbouring properties on both sides, in one of Melbourne's most tightly held residential streets. That kind of environment demands careful planning, precise sequencing, and a level of site management that protects everyone around the build while the work gets done.

This is what does. Architecturally driven custom homes, delivered with the discipline and expertise that complex urban sites demand.

A complex renovation asks a lot of everyone involved: clients, architects, and builders alike. What makes the difference isn't just technical capability. It's how well the team communicates, how quickly problems are resolved, and whether the people you've trusted to deliver are keeping you genuinely informed at every step.

At , that clarity isn't something we offer at the end of a project. It's built into how we work from day one. Because the strongest results are never delivered alone.

If your project deserves this level of partnership, we'd love to hear about it https://www.fortemprojects.com/contact/

The best outcomes are never built alone.

At , Windsor, the result speaks for itself. But behind it is something less visible: a working relationship between builder and architect that was built with as much care as the home itself. Resolved early, maintained throughout, and strong enough to carry the project through every challenge along the way.

That collaborative foundation is what brings to every project. Not just construction expertise, but a genuine commitment to working as part of the broader team - alongside architects, designers, and clients - from the earliest stages through to completion.

The frame tells the whole story.

This is the moment where the extension takes shape - new timber framing rising from the ground floor, defining the footprint of what will become a seamless addition to an existing heritage home. Getting to this stage requires far more than carpentry. Every wall position, every load path, every connection point between the new extension and the original home has been resolved long before a single stud goes up.

Framing is where the planning becomes physical. And on a project like this, the precision of that planning is what determines whether the two parts of the home ultimately feel like one.

Some homes demand more before you even break ground.

is a substantial Victorian-era residence in Hawthorn - the kind of home defined by its ornate brickwork, original corbels, decorative terracotta detailing, and a scale that speaks to a different era of building entirely. A property of this significance doesn't just require construction expertise. It requires restraint, an understanding of heritage, and a team that knows what's worth preserving and what needs to be carefully evolved.

This video captures the project across key stages - the original architecture, the craftsmanship carried through into the new, and the detail that runs through every stage of a build.

A heritage home doesn't have to live in the past.

, Windsor, is a Victorian-era home that had every reason to stay exactly as it was: ornate original detailing, four-metre ceilings, and the kind of proportions that simply aren't built anymore. But its owners had a vision for what it could become, and that required a builder and architect who could hold both things at once: deep respect for what existed, and the technical capability to introduce something entirely new.

Working closely with Melanie Beynon Architecture & Design, resolved every detail. How bold contemporary finishes, arched thresholds, a rooftop terrace, and a rear extension that connects seamlessly with the original home could be woven into a home of this character - without unsettling it. That kind of outcome doesn't happen through guesswork. It happens through early collaboration, resolved documentation, and a shared commitment between builder and architect to protect the design intent all the way to completion.

The result is a home that is unmistakably its owners' own - and unmistakably of its era.

This is what's possible when the right team understands what a heritage home is actually worth.

Transformation isn't about erasing what's there, it's about knowing what to preserve, what to restore, and how to bring a home forward without losing the character that made it worth renovating in the first place. That balance is what pursues on every heritage project.
