Clearing Stubborn Tree Roots in New Town | The Right Tool for the Job 🛠️

Dealing with old earthenware drains in heritage homes requires more than just power—it requires the right strategy. We recently attended a property on New Town Road where the entire downstairs plumbing had come to a standstill. The culprit? Significant tree root infestation in the original earthenware pipes. This job presented a specific technical challenge. Because the downstairs bathroom was positioned above the lowest overflow point outside, jumping straight to a high-pressure hydro jetter carried a high risk. If the blockage had been particularly stubborn, the back-pressure could have easily sent water back up through the floor wastes, potentially flooding the lower bathroom. Another successful job completed in Sandford, Tasmania!

We were called out to investigate a completely blocked drain servicing an outside building. The blockage had proven difficult to clear, so we used a drain camera and locator to accurately pinpoint the exact location of the issue.

Once located, a small excavation was carried out to expose the pipe. It was found that the drain had been damaged and cracked—likely due to traffic above—and tree roots had made their way into the pipe, causing a severe blockage.

The damaged section of pipe was removed and replaced, restoring proper flow to the drainage system.
