Sterra is proud to have recently delivered a successful Design and Construct project for the Shire of Northam at Northam Airport.

Our scope of works encompassed design, bulk earthworks and asphalt of 10,000m² of apron and taxiway at Northam Airport.
The earthworks component involved approximately 3,000m³ of cut and dispose offsite, along with 2,000m³ of gravel import for the basecourse pavement. All earthworks were completed using Sterra's in-house excavators and trucks, with our UTS Total Station deployed on the grader throughout to maximise efficiency across both time and materials.

Sterra managed all quality assurance testing — including material testing and as-constructed surveys — ensuring every hold point was met in full accordance with our tender submission.
The result is another durable, high-quality asset delivered on time and to the complete satisfaction of our client, further cementing Sterra's reputation for excellence in civil construction and seamless project delivery.

Here's another small emergency project recently completed.
Similar to Leeder Rd, Clydesdale Rd, Northam also had a failing Timber Bridge. Reported by local resident, The Shire quickly reached out to Sterra to see if we could replace the Old structure with modern failproof HDPE Pipes.
Deep groundwater and soft underfoot conditions meant excavations reached 3m before suitable ground was found. We had to employ 2 dewatering pumps to keep water at bay for the 3 days it took to replace the old bridge. Cement stabilised backfill ensured solid base for the new pipes & road with zero settlement risks. New 2 coat seal & stone pitching also installed.

We’re proud to share some smaller projects we’ve recently completed.
This New culvert installation on Leeder Rd, Northam replaced an aging timber structure that was quickly beginning to fail. Identified by the Local Shire as URGENT, Sterra was able to replace the structure in just 2 days whilst keeping traffic flowing on what is essentially a single lane section of road! This required careful management of traffic, equipment & personnel. This project reflects our ability to move fast whilst keeping the public, our team & the Shire’s budget safe!
