But if your gas hot water system is getting older, becoming unreliable or regularly needing repairs, it's worth thinking ahead.

If your existing gas hot water system is working, you don't have to replace it when the new Victorian rules come into effect 1 March 2027. You can continue using it, and it can still be serviced and repaired.

The change becomes important when your existing gas hot water system reaches the end of its life and can no longer be repaired.
