A little behind-the-scenes from a job near Gympie – caught mid-clean.

You can see how it goes: part of the array already cleaned and gleaming, the rest still waiting their turn, van parked up and ready. We work our way methodically across the whole lot with our pure-water system, section by section, so nothing gets skipped and every panel ends up the same.

It's just the two of us – Craig and Harvey – on every job, no subcontractors, so the work stays consistent and careful from start to finish.

Here's something we spot on nearly every job – and this Doonan shot shows it perfectly.

When the solar panels need a clean, the roof around them almost always does too. Makes sense really: they're both up there copping the same leaf litter, pollen, dust and weather, day in day out.

A grimy roof isn't just a looks thing either. Built-up growth and debris can trap moisture and end up clogging your gutters over time. And if we're already set up to clean the panels, doing the roof at the same time is often the easy call.

We do both, with the right method for each surface. Happy to take a look and tell you what's actually worth doing.

Hard to beat clean panels against a clear winter sky – this one's from a job in Pomona.

Pomona and the hinterland are beautifully green, but all those trees mean leaves and pollen on the roof, plus the usual dust and bird mess. It settles on the glass and quietly eats into how much your panels can soak up – and right now, with the winter sun low, every bit counts.

Our pure-water system lifted the lot and left the panels spotless, no chemicals, no streaks. Just clean glass ready to do its job.

Reviews like this one make the job worthwhile.

Tony out at Lake Macdonald left us a 5-star review after we cleaned his solar panels – and he gave Harvey a special mention for the great job, plus said he'd recommend us. Doesn't get much better than that.

We're a small family business, just Craig and Harvey, no subcontractors – so when someone's happy enough to recommend us by name, it genuinely means a lot. We treat every roof like it's our own and leave the panels spotless with our pure-water system.

Bit of a lesser-known one for you: we clean solar hot water systems too, not just panels.

This is a Solahart collector in Tinbeerwah getting the once-over with our rotary cleaner and pure water. These units cop exactly the same dust, pollen and grime as solar panels – and because they're up on the roof and out of sight, they're easy to forget. Plenty haven't been touched in years.

A dirty collector can't soak up heat as well as a clean one, so a wash helps it do its job. And if we're already there cleaning your panels or roof, it's an easy add-on.

Back out to North Arm, this time for a big run of panels on a shed roof – with the hinterland stretching out behind.

Bigger arrays are really worth keeping on top of. The more panels you've got, the more a thin film of grime adds up across the whole system. And out on these rural blocks there's plenty of dust and pollen about, with not much winter rain to wash it off.

Our pure-water system brought the whole row back to a clean, even finish – no chemicals, no streaks. Big array or small, we give it the same care.

Winter's actually the sneaky season for solar panels – and here's why.

This clean array in Doonan (great view, hey?) is set up to make the most of it. In winter the sun sits low and the days are short, so your panels are already getting less light than they would in summer. Add a film of dust and grime on top and they're really working uphill.

And that old line about the rain cleaning them? Doesn't really stack up – a shower usually just leaves a muddy smear behind. A proper clean now means your panels can grab as much of that limited winter sun as possible.

If yours haven't been done in a while, now's a good time.

Want to see what a clean actually does? This mid-job shot near Gympie says it all.

Half these panels have had a clean, half haven't yet – and look at the difference. The clean ones are dark and clear; the rest are sitting under a dull, grimy film.

That film is exactly the issue. Dust and grime block light from getting to the cells, and because it builds up so evenly you'd never spot it from the ground. A side-by-side like this is usually the moment it clicks for people.

Our pure-water system strips that layer right off so the panels can do their job properly.

How good are clean panels? This Doonan array came up so clear you can see the clouds and the bush reflected right back at you.

Doonan's a gorgeous spot, but all those trees mean leaf litter, pollen and bird mess settling on the panels. With the winter sun sitting low and not much rain about, a clean really helps them grab every bit of daylight going.

A run-over with our pure-water system lifted all the grime and left them spotless – no chemicals, no streaks, just gleaming glass. Honestly one of the more satisfying afters we've had lately.

Thought we'd pull back the curtain a bit today.

This is some of the gear that makes a proper solar clean possible – our surface cleaner mid-job on a roof in Pomona, fed with pure water so there's no need for chemicals. We carry our own water and DI tank on the van, so we're fully self-sufficient on site. We won't be borrowing your taps or hoses.

The other bonus: it lets us clean safely without tramping all over your roof. And because it's just Craig and Harvey, the bloke who quotes the job is the bloke who does it.
