Nestled amongst the coastal lifestyle town of Shoal Bay, you could be forgiven for thinking you weren’t surrounded by neighbours. This project featured a new build occupying a significant footprint of the site, leaving minimal space for gardens and connection with nature. However in this space you couldn’t feel more connected to the natural surroundings, with the trickiling of water to the dappled light shining through the slender weaving bamboo, you are instantly transported to a tranquil oasis far removed from the busy seaside suburb.

Views with aspect is always a winning combination, but it usually comes with challenges of a sloping site. In this project, we developed a design that made the most of this winning combination whilst creating simple and functional key points that access the sundrenched pool with sprawling city views. 

The pool shelter provides privacy from the neighbouring properties, with its NE aspect to the views allowing for great solar pe*******on. The sandstone steppers meander down the slope framing beautiful garden views, pause spaces, and the fire pit. Whilst the level portion of the site has been left open to allow the active teenagers plenty of space to play, boasting a generous basketball area.

Set amongst the idyllic beachside location of Bar Beach, this modern family home has everything a family could wish for: proximity to the beach and town, as well as outdoor cooking facilities, fire pit and swimming pool, all seamlessly connected by a design that is elegant in its simplicity.

The site presented challenges in its slope and also privacy concerns for which MUD navigated council approvals, engineering and certifier requirements to achieve this stunning coastal oasis. Lovingly constructed by the highly professional team at Jason Reading Landscapes, resulting in a truly remarkable home.

Boasting a fantastic location, aspect and flat site the property lacked interest and a wow factor. That’s when we stepped in with a luxurious modern coastal design that expanded on the site amenity, creating a lush space with interest in all directions. The stone clad boundary walls present interest and a changing perspective as you approach the property, whilst the view to the pool features curved timber batten and lush bambusa textillis gracillis creating a green backdrop and adding privacy to the neighbouring properties. The features continue with the built in cooking facilities, fire-pit area, outdoor shower and every homeowner’s dream: the well proportioned shed 👌

A contemporary mix of coastal charm, this project showcases the best of coastal living fused into busy city schedules, accommodating remote work and side ventures as well as break out spaces that immerse you into the landscape. Successfully navigating the challenges of the unique site, this design makes the most of the northern aspect whilst the lush plantings create an environment that feels so far removed from the popular nearby shopping village and beaches.

You could be forgiven for thinking this little slice of green paradise is located far from surrounding neighbours, but it is right in the heart of suburban Broadmeadow. Lush plantings of bambusa textillis gracilis and strelitzia nicolai screen the urban environment whilst a textural palette of recycled brick, blackbutt and structural steel provide an enticing break from the hustle and bustle.
