LIMINAL Studio Architecture . Spaces . Objects . Ideation . Country

LIMINAL Studio is a transdisciplinary architecture and design practice noted for design excellence, creativity and our embrace of collaboration. Our interdisciplinary approach is captured through the LIMINAL Architecture, Spaces, Objects and Ideation identities. The Studio is a globally connected, creatively agile think-tank that integrates design and architecture with the disciplines interior des

ign, furniture, object design, arts, curation and production design. Underpinning our work is the view that the quality of the environment we operate in, its connectedness to place and people, stimulates creativity, impacts on our desire to visit or inhabit those places, as well as our productivity, health and general wellbeing. LIMINAL is known for pushing boundaries and is driven by the belief that to create new design frontiers, collaboration across broader disciplines drives new thinking and empowers communities.

Light is more than seeing.

It shapes how we feel in a space, influences our health and wellbeing, and transforms spaces from static form into living experiences. In a performance venue like the Hedberg, light becomes another collaborator - setting mood, guiding movement, weaving intricate worlds.

Southern Lighting supplied the majority of fittings that bring the Hedberg to life, understanding that each fixture plays an important role in the spatial narrative.

From ideation through to completion, projects like this are shaped by countless hands - suppliers, fabricators, installers, and makers who bring vision into being.

We're grateful to work with collaborators who understand that light is never just functional. It's emotional, physiological, theatrical.

In December, our Melbourne and Hobart teams came together for LIMINALITY—a workshop exploring who we are as a studio and where we're heading.

Sometimes the most important work isn't designing a building—it's designing the space for a team to think, create, and grow together.

This is what collaboration looks like.

As the 50th NAIDOC Week comes to a wrap, we reflect on empowering our youth and how meaningful collaborations can deepen understanding of culture and Country - for all who engage with the places we shape together.

The theme of NAIDOC week ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy’ highlights the importance and recognition of empowering the next generation to shape the future, celebrating culture and resilience, having a vision for community-led change and honouring achievements and legacy.

Our current collaboration with Cosgrove High School and the Department for Education, Children and Young People, Black Wattle Country and Inspiring Place, points to strengthening this legacy by investing in our youth to shape the future.

It is extraordinary to see The Hedberg in nipaluna Hobart provisionally registered in the Tasmanian Heritage Register. The site at 29 Campbell Street is of historic cultural heritage significance demonstrating the periods of growth, decline, and changing land use from Colonial times to today. It was a privilege and such a rewarding project for us.

Thank you Archello.com for featuring a project that is very close to our hearts and those of our community! Together with Homes Tasmania and Anglicare Tas we reimagined social housing for young adults and created The Youth 2 Independence Campbell Street project (Y2I). At its core, it provides accommodation for youths interwoven with Community Hub support, social activities and life-long learning opportunities.

Y2I Campbell Street transforms an underused podium into a vibrant social housing hub for young adults. Featuring custom perforated screening, rooftop gardens, and communal spaces, the design fosters connection and independence while redefining urban density.
