A throwback to some recent photos taken, just days before my blueberries defoliated & flame bushes went dormant, a clients majestically loaded crab apple tree & some jelly that I made from it.

As things wind down for the quieter time of year, we try and catch up on lost sleep whilst juggling weeding, garlic planting, and some bare root planting at our place.

My existing clients are already aware that we will be expecting our first baby in Spring, and that's meant I've essentially stopped working for the next little while.

I am still doing a bit of consulting here and there, so if there's anyone out there wanting to put a plan in place in time for bare root season get in touch with me sooner rather than later 🌱

Doormat fruit trees are a fraction of the cost of potted ones, and the range available is incredible to home growers.
I can't resist popping in just a few more trees before our baby comes! 😄

This year my broccoli heads have been the largest I've ever grown, some exceeding a whopping 2kgs!

My secrets to growing great broccoli?
Sow seed in January, lots of compost, good quality seed and suitable varieties to your area.

These giant heads were actually an F1 variety called Marathon, by Southern Harvest Seeds in Tasmania 🥦
I'll certainly be growing them again next year.

The broccoli glut has begun, one of my absolute favourite vegetables to grow and eat 🥦😋

How are your tomatoes going this year?

Despite a very mild summer in Tasmania I'm quite happy with mine, particularly the impressive fruit set of some of my absolute favourites.
Most of my clients are having a pretty good tomato year 🍅

Jaune Flamme performing again, being the first to ripen, closely followed by golden nugget and beams yellow pears.
It really does seem that the yellows are first to ripen, yet another reason to grow all the colours that heirlooms have to offer.

A plate of Summer seasonal goodness for dinner last night ✨

As yet another year comes to a close, I look back and feel deeply grateful for everything that makes my life so full ✨

Other than my animal family, wonderful partner, the beautiful land I dwell on and care for, I am also incredibly fortunate to work for myself in a role that I genuinely enjoy so much.

Growing plants is a deep passion of mine, and I couldn't be more glad for the support of my wonderful clients as it allows me to keep doing what I do.

Thank you all for your support this year, I look forward to continuing the work that I love so much in the years to come!

Happy New Year from my family to yours 🌱

My grandfather was a master strawberry grower.
I often feel sad that I didn't ask him more questions while he was still on this earth about growing berries, and simultaneously, I have a feeling that all that knowledge is in my blood 🍓

At the very least, both of my grandfather's gave me green fingers and observant eyes, the plants tell me what to do 🌱

Zero fertiliser has been used on this strawberry, and the ones that have ripened so far are just heavenly compared to anything you can purchase. Happy berry season!

One of the most worthwhile crops to grow at home is garlic 🧄
If I had to choose, it takes first place as my absolute favourite crop to grow.
Each clove you plant gives you a garlic head, it needs little to no water as it grows from autumn until early summer, it saves you loads of money and ensures you aren't buying imported fumigated stuff from overseas. Anything that is treated with antifungal and antimicrobial treatment and is then ingested is going to have that affect in your gut, killing off microflora - really not what you want!
Homegrown garlic supports your immune system, makes everything taste better, and is easy to grow.
Then all you have to do is save some of your cloves and replant again in Autumn, a never ending cycle of garlic abundance!

If you end up with excess, garlic plaits also make a great easy Christmas gift that costs you and the environment nothing ✨

Why all ornamental gardens don't contain some edibles I can't understand.
Even for strictly ornamental garden designs, I sneek in some stunning edibles.
Why? Because they are not mutually exclusive. Many edibles are incredibly beautiful, low maintenance and bring in an array of insect and bird life.
And hey, maybe one day the client will decide to eat some and benefit from them in more than one way.

Pictured are two different purple globe artichokes that I am enjoying in my garden right now.
I can't wait for them to open, although they are already putting on a show as they are 💜

Too beautiful to eat? I'll be waiting until next year when I have an abundance of them before I start to harvest them, blanch their hearts, salt, pepper, lemon and a good drizzle of Australian olive oil, what an absolute treat! No holiday to Italy required.

It's time to think about protecting your fruit trees from birds and vermin. Though the fruits are just swelling , if they haven't already - any day now your local competitors will begin to have a taste.

Every garden is different, and you will know your competition better than I can. Protect your crops now if you have the means to 🍓🍏🍒

This clip was taken in winter when our grass was still yellow (we are cold enough to make most things dormant up here at 600m above sea level).

I'm glad to say that now that the grass is green they haven't been breaking in to my garden.

Some good greens to sow for chooks that stay green all year round are roquette, mizuna, broadbeans, cabbages and parsely 🌱

Another delivery of solid garden beds that will last the test of time.
Four more to come next week, and then it will be time to start planting veggies at this clients place 🌱
