After finishing a joinery apprenticeship in Denmark, Peter immigrated to Australia in 1978. With these skills he progressed into the construction industry in Sydney. In 1984 an opportunity arose to move to the Gold Coast and install the fire doors at Jupiters Casino, Broadbeach.
