HACCP Pest Control – Rodent Management in Healthcare & Aged Care
Rodent control in healthcare and aged care is not just about removing pests — it is about protecting patients, residents, staff, food areas and sensitive clinical environments.

At Redback Pest Control Sydney, our HACCP-based pest management approach focuses on prevention, monitoring, documentation and corrective action.

For healthcare and aged care sites, this includes:
• Tamper-resistant rodent stations
• Site-specific bait station maps
• Regular monitoring and service records
• SDS and chemical control documentation
• Food preparation and storage area protection
• Corrective action reporting for hygiene, waste and building entry-point issues
• ServiceM8 reports with photos, recommendations and follow-up actions
Rodent activity can create serious risks in kitchens, stores, plant rooms, loading docks, waste areas and resident facilities. A strong program must identify the cause, not just treat the symptom.

Our focus is on Integrated Pest Management, safe product use, audit-ready reporting and reducing pest pressure before it becomes a larger issue.

Bed Bug Management for Hotels, Accommodation Facilities and Healthcare Environments

Bed bugs are one of the most difficult pests to manage in high-occupancy buildings.

Bed bug monitoring traps can be installed under bed legs, near skirting boards, beside lounges and in high-risk room locations.

• They help identify early bed bug activity before it becomes a larger infestation and assist with checking adjoining rooms.

• They provide a simple non-chemical support tool for hotels, hospitals and accommodation sites to assist inspection, reporting, follow-up treatment checks and ongoing room protection.

In large hotel groups with more than 500 rooms, the risk is not just one affected room. Bed bugs can move through luggage, linen, furniture, bedding, staff movement, housekeeping trolleys and adjoining rooms if the issue is not identified and controlled early.

In hospitals and healthcare facilities, the risk becomes even more sensitive. Bed bugs are not generally known to transmit disease, but bites can cause irritation, itching, sleep loss and skin reactions.

Where bites are scratched, broken skin may lead to secondary infection, particularly for vulnerable patients, elderly people, people with reduced immunity or patients with existing wounds.

For larger sites, reporting is just as important as treatment.

Redback Pest Control Sydney uses digital reporting systems to record:

This gives hotels, facility managers and healthcare operators a clear record of what was inspected, what was treated, what still needs attention and when follow-up is required.

Bed bug control is not just about spraying a room. It requires inspection, reporting, room control, staff communication, treatment planning and Follow-up inspections and monitoring.

Redback Pest Control Sydney provides structured bed bug management for hotels, healthcare facilities and high-risk commercial sites

• Clearance advice before rooms return to normal use
• Inspection findings
• Room numbers or treatment areas
• Photographs where appropriate

30/04/2026

At Redback Pest Control, maintaining drills, electric cords, and vacuums is just as critical as your specialized termite gear.

Using the right electrical equipment and keeping it tagged ensures both team safety and job efficiency.

Why the Right Electrical Equipment Matters
Safety & Prevention: Using heavy-duty, 3-core wiring designed for commercial use prevents shocks and fires caused by exposed wires or loose prongs.

Operational Efficiency: Specialized accessories like cord restraints and power cord holders prevent accidental disconnections, allowing you to clean continuously without disruption.

Equipment Longevity: Starting your cord wrap from the machine outwards prevents internal twisting that can snap wires over time.
Job Site Performance: High-quality extension cords (like 18m 10A leads) reduce voltage loss, ensuring your drills and vacuums operate at full power.

The Importance of Tagging and Regular Checks
Compliance with AS/NZS Standards: In Australia, electrical equipment must meet standards like AS/NZS 3112 for plugs and sockets to ensure they are safe for commercial environments.

Risk Mitigation: Regular checks for pinched, cut, or frayed cords are essential; a damaged cord is a significant fire and safety hazard that must be replaced immediately.

Accountability: Tagging provides a clear record of when a tool was last inspected, ensuring no equipment is used past its safe service date.

Visual Inspections: Using clear plastic plugs and sockets allows for easy visual inspection of the internal connections to catch loose wires before they cause a shock

Saving bees when we can is critical because they are the "invisible engine" behind our food supply and the health of the entire planet. Without them, our ecosystems would effectively "unravel"

Bees are the world's most efficient pollinators, directly supporting about one-third of all the food we eat.

Crop Reliance: Approximately 75% of global food crops rely at least partially on animal pollination.

Variety & Nutrition: Without bees, nutritious foods like almonds, apples, blueberries, avocados, and cherries would become scarce or disappear entirely.

Livestock Feed: Bees pollinate forage crops like clover and lucerne, which feed dairy and meat livestock.

At 1800-Redback Pest Control, we do things differently. Every treatment we service is logged via ServiceM8 with photo evidence, so you know it’s been completed effective.

Whether it's specialist bird exclusion or a full commercial pest plan, we fix the mess others leave behind.

New Rodent Control Now In Place

For licensed pest control companies, the new national regulations for rodent control are fully in place as of 24 March 2026.

On this date, the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) officially suspended the registration of all products containing second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) for a period of one year to enforce strict new use conditions.

Key Compliance Requirements for Professionals

Licensed pest management technicians must now follow these legally enforceable instructions, which supersede existing product labels:

Mandatory Reassessment: Any baiting program must not exceed 35 days without a documented evaluation of the infestation and the effectiveness of the treatment.

Restricted Placement: SGARs must not be used outside for mouse control. For rats, they must only be placed within 2 metres of buildings and inside secured, tamper-resistant, and weather-resistant bait stations.

Burrow Restrictions: Direct application of SGARs to rodent burrows is now prohibited.

Documentation: Licensed operators are required to maintain comprehensive records of site assessments and inspections as part of their compliance processes.

Critical Timelines for Schools And Commercial Sites

35-Day Assessment Rule: Any baiting currently in place must be assessed within 35 days of the 24 March start date (by 28 April 2026). This assessment must evaluate the infestation status and the efficacy of the treatment to justify continued use Using SGARs.

Why It’s Important to Protect Children in Daycare from Wasps

See how Redback Pest Control Complete Wasps Baiting

Children in daycare environments are naturally curious, active, and often unaware of potential hazards around them. One overlooked but serious risk in outdoor daycare areas is the presence of wasps.

Wasps are highly territorial insects that can become aggressive when their nests are disturbed. In a daycare setting—where children play outdoors, run through gardens, and explore playground structures—the risk of accidental encounters with wasps increases significantly.

Protecting children from these insects is essential not only for comfort but also for preventing serious health emergencies.

Young children are especially vulnerable to insect stings because their immune systems are still developing and they may not be able to communicate symptoms quickly.

A single wasp sting can be painful, but multiple stings or allergic reactions can become life-threatening in a matter of minutes. Because of these risks, daycare centres must take proactive steps to prevent wasp infestations and remove nests safely.

· Multiple stings from aggressive swarms

Wasps can sting repeatedly and may attack in groups if their nest is disturbed. Multiple stings can cause toxic reactions, especially in small children.

· Pain and distress

Wasp stings are extremely painful and frightening for young children, often causing panic and emotional trauma.

· Secondary infections

Children often scratch sting sites, which can break the skin and introduce bacteria, leading to infections.

· Swelling and inflammation

Even in children who are not allergic, stings can cause significant swelling that may last several days.

· Breathing complications

If a child is stung near the face, mouth, or throat, swelling can restrict airways and require emergency treatment.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗣𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗦𝘆𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘀

Conducting site visits to inspect rodent stations during a tender is essential for establishing an accurate baseline and developing an effective, tailored pest management program.

We don't just count boxes. We inspect current stations for tampering, correct tethering, and placement effectiveness.

We completed severl recent tenders and found No rodent bait.

Why Empty Stations and Poor Maintenance Fail

Zero Protection: If stations are not regularly refilled, they provide absolutely no protection, allowing rodent populations to multiply unchecked.

Loss of Palatability: Bait that is left too long can become mouldy, dusty, or contaminated by insects, making it unattractive to rodents who will then ignore the stations entirely.

Bait Shyness: Inconsistent baiting can lead to "sub-lethal" dosing, where rodents become sick but do not die, causing them to associate the station with illness and avoid it in the future.

Compliance & Audit Risks: Not fitted to a Hard Surface,Unmaintained, dirty, or broken stations fail to meet the professional standards required for third-party audits and health safety regulations.
