A brighter clubhouse for the Narangba Rangers.

Power Bolt Electrical recently completed an exterior lighting upgrade at the Narangba Rangers Rugby League Football Club.

Local clubs can remain busy long after the final whistle. Players, families and volunteers still need to move around the clubhouse, pack up equipment and finish the work that keeps the club running.

The upgraded LED floodlights provide clearer, more practical illumination around the facility after dark.

It was good to complete another local job that will be useful throughout the football season.

Sorry Brisbane, winter's over. ☀️

Who needs transitional seasons when we can slam straight into summer temperatures!

We were tempted to say this forecast is 'unseasonably hot', but really, what else would you expect from Brissy in spring?

More Queenslanders are considering electric vehicles, but buying the car is only half the decision.

A typical single-phase home EV charger can draw 32 amps for several hours. Energex says many Queensland properties have 50-amp or 63-amp service fuses, so the charger needs to be assessed alongside air conditioning, electric cooking, hot water and the home’s other large electrical loads.

This does not mean every EV owner needs a switchboard upgrade. It means the switchboard, service capacity and proposed charging arrangement should be checked before the charger is purchased.

The Queensland school holidays are nearly here.

For 17 days, children will spend more time at home charging devices, gaming, preparing food and moving between indoor and outdoor areas.

School holidays do not suddenly create electrical faults. They give existing faults more opportunities to affect someone.

Before the holidays begin, check your home for:

• Loose, cracked or discoloured power points
• Damaged chargers and exposed cables
• Overloaded powerboards
• Extension leads being used outdoors
• Repeated safety-switch or circuit-breaker trips
• Electrical equipment being used near water

The Queensland Electrical Safety Office recommends testing safety switches every three months. It also warns that one safety switch may not protect every circuit in your home.

If something buzzes, sparks, overheats or smells unusual, do not wait for it to become a bigger problem.

The Queensland smoke alarm rush is beginning.

From 1 January 2027, every Queensland home must have compliant interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms installed in every bedroom, connecting hallways and on every storey.

The September school holidays are becoming a natural time for families to get the work completed. However, the holidays are not the real cause of the rush.

Once Term 4 begins, fewer than three months will remain before the deadline. That period also includes Christmas, summer travel and the annual shutdown period for many businesses.

Having one or two working smoke alarms does not necessarily mean your home complies. The alarms must be correctly positioned, interconnected and suitable for the existing electrical system.

Power Bolt Electrical installs and upgrades smoke alarm systems throughout North Brisbane and Moreton Bay.

Avoid the December rush.

Your home may not be faulty. It may have simply outgrown the electrical system it was built with.

Modern households use more appliances, devices and high-demand equipment than ever before. Additional power points, better lighting, ceiling fans and correctly planned circuits can make the home safer, more comfortable and easier to use.

Power Bolt Electrical provides domestic electrical services across Moreton Bay, including Narangba, Burpengary and North Lakes.

Is your home ready for the next heatwave?

Hotter conditions are expected as Queensland moves towards summer, and that usually means one thing: air conditioners working harder and electricity usage climbing.

But your air conditioner doesn't necessarily have to do all the work.

Ceiling fans can improve airflow, make rooms feel more comfortable and work alongside air conditioning to help distribute cool air throughout the space.

That can mean keeping the thermostat a little higher while still feeling comfortable, particularly during long periods of hot weather.

Bedrooms are one of the best places to start. A good ceiling fan can provide airflow throughout the night and may reduce how heavily you need to rely on air conditioning.

If you already know there are rooms in your home that become uncomfortable every summer, now is a good time to sort them out before the hot weather arrives.

Power Bolt Electrical can install new ceiling fans or replace ageing, noisy and ineffective fans.

Get your home summer-ready before everyone starts thinking about it at once.

Sometimes the most important part of an electrical job is what we find along the way.

During this recent air-conditioning job, Power Bolt tested the existing electrical circuit and upgraded its protection to a safety switch.

Testing can sometimes uncover faults that have been sitting unnoticed while everything appears to be working normally.

Loose connections, deteriorating components, damaged insulation or earth leakage don't always cause a circuit to immediately stop working. In some cases, the first obvious sign is heat damage, nuisance tripping or equipment beginning to fail.

That's why we don't simply connect new equipment and walk away.

The existing circuit, switchboard protection and completed electrical work all need to be checked.

If you're upgrading air conditioning or aren't sure whether all the circuits in your home have safety-switch protection, Power Bolt Electrical can inspect and test your electrical installation.

Will your old air conditioner make it through another Queensland summer?

El Niño is already firmly established and strong, with the Bureau of Meteorology expecting it to intensify further through spring.

At this recent Power Bolt Electrical job, we installed two new Mitsubishi Heavy Industries inverter split systems at a home that still had older window-style air conditioners.

It's a pretty good illustration of just how far air-conditioning technology has come.

Modern inverter systems can adjust their output as the room reaches temperature, helping maintain more consistent comfort and potentially reducing electricity use during those long periods of operation that come with hot Queensland weather.

If your current air conditioner struggled last summer, runs constantly, has become noisy or is getting expensive to repair, don't wait for the first major heatwave to start thinking about replacing it.

Get your cooling sorted before summer.
