This is the kind of work that separates good from great.

A detailed Victorian cornice leaves plenty of opportunity for the finish to fall short. Getting a result this clean comes down to the skill and care of the people doing the work.

One bathroom detail we’re obsessed with lately: concealed lighting.

Easy to miss, but once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

The light is tucked into the ceiling detail so you get a soft wash down the wall, without another fitting in sight. Less glare, great at night and it makes the texture in the tiles really stand out.

One of the perks of building custom. You’re not stuck with a standard lighting plan, so details like this can be worked in from the start.

A big part of our design process is making sure you can clearly see and understand what’s being specified for your home, long before we start building.

We work through the finishes, fixtures and details with you, then bring everything together through mood boards, renders, detailed drawings and a digital dashboard where your selections are kept in one place for you to review and approve.

It means you’re not trying to piece together samples, plans and individual selections in your head. You can see how everything works together and know what you’re getting before it makes its way to site.

Curves are going nowhere fast. We’ve been seeing them work their way into homes for a while now, and they’re showing no signs of disappearing.

They soften all the straight lines in a space and can make a simple doorway, junction or island end a lot more interesting.

They might look simple when they’re finished, but getting curves right takes plenty of coordination across multiple trades. Lucky for us, the trickier the detail, the more we enjoy it.

One of the advantages of building custom is the freedom to create details specifically for the home, rather than designing around what’s available off the shelf.

These timber doors and curved frames were designed by our in-house interior design team and custom made for this extension. It's one of those details we believe was well worth the extra effort.

A pretty satisfying install, too.

It might be 14 degrees outside, but now is actually a pretty good time to be talking about pools. If a pool is on the wish list, winter gives you the time to plan it properly. Where it sits on the block, how it connects to the house and outdoor areas, what you see from inside, where the sun falls, along with the practical things like access, levels and approvals.

Get the planning underway now and, when the weather warms up, you’ll be glad you did.

So yes, we’re talking pools in August.

BLACK SPRINGS | CHIMNEY DETAILS

A chimney has a big job to do, but it can also shape the way a home looks.
Rather than treating it as something to hide, we made it a feature. Clad in Spotted Gum, it ties in with the surrounding bushland, adding warmth, texture and a finish that feels right at home in the country.
