About the role
We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer and/or Project Manager to join our team in Mount Gambier.
Working across a variety of civil construction projects, you will play a key role in project planning, coordination and delivery. You will help ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget and in accordance with relevant quality and environmental requirements.
This position bridges technical design and on-site delivery. You will work closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors, surveyors, authorities and internal teams to resolve technical matters and keep projects moving.
You will also represent GEM professionally when supporting existing clients and pursuing new business opportunities.
Key responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
• Developing project plans, construction methodologies, staging plans and schedules
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and design documentation
• Coordinating with designers, consultants and surveyors to resolve technical queries
• Monitoring site activities and progress against project milestones
• Providing technical guidance to site teams, subcontractors and suppliers
• Undertaking site supervision, set-out, levels and measurements as required
• Preparing project reports, updates and technical documentation
• Liaising with clients, subcontractors, authorities and other stakeholders
• Supporting estimating, tender reviews, procurement and constructability assessments
• Preparing scopes of work and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Managing project budgets, forecasts, variations, progress claims and invoicing through Cheops
• Monitoring quantities, costs and scope changes, and assisting with claims
• Implementing quality assurance and control processes
• Undertaking risk assessments and supporting compliance with WHS and environmental requirements
• Coordinating plant, equipment, labour and quarry products with internal teams
• Supporting graduate and site engineers
• Contributing to post-project reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
About you
To succeed in this role, you will have:
• A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or an equivalent qualification
• A minimum of two years’ experience working on civil construction projects
• Experience in areas such as road construction, earthworks, utilities or structures
• Knowledge of Australian Standards, WHS legislation and environmental regulations
• Strong planning, problem-solving and organisational skills
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to build effective relationships with clients, contractors and project stakeholders
• Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Project
• A current First Aid Certificate
• A commitment to safety, accountability and continuous improvement
• Note: Entry level applicants are also encouraged to apply.
Experience with project management systems such as MS Project, or Cheops, and design software such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D, will be highly regarded.
A Traffic Management qualification would also be advantageous.
