What's different about the way we trim Pittosporum hedges?

We prune out vertical growth that is too close to the sides. We're thinking the structure of our hedges should be be a vertical trunk in the middle with lots of horizontal branches poking out from the trunk. Does that makes sense?

You know you're doing it right if you can only see leaves and no wood when you look at your hedge 🍂

What a week 🌱

Spring is well and truly starting to show itself, and the whole LKDI team has been getting stuck into it.

This week we’ve tackled everything from a big garden clean-up with the full crew, to pruning, weeding, mulching, regular garden maintenance and quotes for both new and returning clients.

It’s also been great seeing some of our regular clients increase the amount of gardening we do for them, along with a few new opportunities starting to come through as the weather improves.

There’s something pretty satisfying about looking around at the end of a busy week and seeing what a small team can get through when everyone plays their part.

A big thanks to Nick, Tyler, Liam and Jayden for the effort this week — and an even bigger thank you to all of our clients, old and new, for continuing to trust us with your gardens.

We don’t take that trust for granted.

Enjoy the weekend, folks. Hopefully there’s plenty more of this spring sunshine ahead. 🌿

Today's national wattle day... I love wattles as much as the next gardener but I was thinking 'what does National Wattle Day even mean?'

Pittosporums have a long history in South Australian landscaping, with Pittosporum tenuifolium used as a hedging plant since at least the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Mount Gambier’s cool, high-rainfall climate suits this New Zealand species particularly well, which helps explain why it became such a familiar hedge and screening plant in older gardens around town.
