ROCABELLA
We’re proud to announce that Rocabella has been awarded the 2026 The Urban Developer Institute award for Small Scale Development.
Rocabella is a demosntration of considered design, crafted details, and the power of collaboration. The project reflects Graya’s commitment to creating buildings of enduring quality - spaces where architecture, materiality, and experience come together with purpose.
Rocabella is comprised of two semidetached homes on Hedges Avenue in the Gold Coast which demonstrate coastal urban living in a vertically organised typology over 5 levels. Set on only 200m2 of land, each 4-bedroom, 5-bathroom residence maximises outdoor connectivity to both the street and Pacific Ocean. Designed to make an active contribution to the urban environment in a region of Australia not well regarded for meaningful urbanism, the project strives to generate architecture that is in balance with its context. Responding to the nearby towers of Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise, the height and scale sets a new precedent for the avenue in line with the council’s increased density envelope. At the street level, a subtly dynamic entry canopy, articulated screen walls and native landscaping provide a strong pedestrian connection. The architecture of each home ensures all spaces have a fluid connection to the outdoor environment via generous balconies featuring integrated planting and curving balustrade details which reinforce the distinct geometry of the project.
We’ve loved working alongside the Graya team and their shared ambition to push the boundaries of residential design. Their collaborative approach has allowed us to explore thoughtful architectural solutions and deliver a building that is both refined and timeless.
Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing Rocabella to life, including our dedicated team of designers at SWAA.
