Crest & Walker, Newstead.

For our opening image, we wanted to give the architecture a sense of place. The surrounding streets, Brisbane skyline and layered planting all contribute to how the building sits within its neighbourhood.

A change in perspective.

Looking down past the curved balustrade, our bedroom view reveals how the spaces at Burnley Silos fit together. Even without the view, the strong sunlight hints at the unseen.

The bathroom offers a closer study of materials, with soft light picking up the tiled curves and terrazzo floor. Two views that move from the shape of the space to the details within it.

You can get to know a family without seeing them.

For Marigold by Mosaic Homes, we built the interior story through knowing full well the chaos that is life of a young family.

Mum and Dad have made a special pancake breakfast. Williams Sonoma pancake mix is still on the kitchen counter, Escuminac maple syrup on the table. Their son’s toys and drawing supplies spill into the lounge, while their daughter’s prized Jellycat Skydragon discarded on the sofa. Dad’s growing record collection sits in the cabinet, and the books offer a few clues to the parents’ interests.

Not every space needs to be filled with designer pieces beyond most people’s reach. Everyday belongings can tell an aspirational story too: a home with room for family rituals, individual interests and a little mess.

Curves, texture and carefully considered contrasts.

Hecker Guthrie’s interior design for Burnley Silos pairs sculptural furniture with the sweeping forms of the space. Warm leather and timber sit against textured concrete, while paper lighting adds a delicate counterpoint.

Each piece has its own character, brought together through a restrained palette and an assured balance of shape and materiality.

A sheltered spot in the sun.

For Breeze’s pool spaces, we wanted to capture the warmth and stillness of the coastal morning. Light catches the patterned screens and timber, while reflections across the water soften the scene.

Moving from the poolside lounges to the ocean outlook, these three views tell a story of somewhere to settle in and take your time.

Sometimes it's the smaller details that bring an image to life.

It's never been easier to add a person to an image. Advancements in technology has made that part almost effortless. But placing someone in a scene and calling it storytelling doesn't necessarily make it considered. Sometimes the greater challenge is knowing when to leave them out.

A pair of sunglass on top of a book, a throw blanket hastily toseed on the daybed. For the rooftop pool at Crest & Walker, we wanted to suggest life without making it the centre of attention. The architecture, light and atmosphere should be enough to tell the story.

The skill isn't always in what you add. Sometimes it's in knowing what to leave out.

“Race you home.”

A little brother makes a break for the front door. His big sister gives chase, determined to beat him home.

That small moment became the story behind our exterior image for Marigold by Mosaic Homes in Coquitlam.

Behind it was detailed research into the families Mosaic’s campaign is designed to reach. We developed the children ourselves, selecting outfits from locally available retailers to reflect the target demographic and make their appearance feel familiar and believable.

Wardrobe, backpacks, movement and placement were considered as part of the same story: two siblings coming home from school, turning the last few steps into a race.

A space to slow down and recharge.

Soft light filters through the curtains, your own private garden space just beyond. The bedroom at Murray Street brings the planting into the experience of the room. The space is secluded, tranquil and homely.

For this image, the atmosphere lives in the details: creased linen, filtered shadows and the warmth of that late afternoon sun reaching all the way through the space.

Warm timber, veined stone and morning light.

We chose an intentionally wide composition for this kitchen at Breeze to convey the full breadth of the space, allowing the eye to travel from the integrated dining table, all the way along through to the island.

Light across the joinery draws out the grain and gives the stone depth, while the curved furniture softens the long, linear composition.
