Exciting progress at The Cabana House
Mickleham , Victoria.
This family home is being built in the botanical residential subdivision on semi-regional land. The area features large trees and flat grasslands that were traditional used for farming practises.
The Home negotiates the site by providing a sequence of courtyards and expansions and fluctuations of space:
- the play of the raked ceiling against circulation spaces , a library with built in day bed & hidden door into guest bed room.
- the expansive arrival into the kitchen / dining areas with ceiling reaching 4 metres in height.
- a series of curved walls finished in beautiful textures such as (int) florentine walnut patterned cladding , venetian plaster, marble / quartzite (ext) brick, castellated biowood, popcorn rendered hebel
- The al fresco terrace with travertine crazy paving , a plunge pool, bbq area and huge panels of glass - shielded by a raked motorised metal pergola / arbour structure
- a series of large circular skylights that are embedded into the raked ceiling to allow the light to dance around the space inside like the ancient houses at pompeii's.
This home is an organic architecture that celebrate the constraints of the site, in a manner where it can confidently occupy a large surface area, yet provide a large / generous feeling of space, light , airflow , amenity & connection to the environment.
The building appeared humble and grounded from the street with soft charcoal/ ochre / light grey smokey bricks, tongue and groove textures biowood cladding, a hardwood entry door/ glazing system with a 2340x1200 hemlock solid timber pivot door.
Beautiful details, delicate lines and a sense of lightness and atmosphere that will bring warmth and sanctuary to its users, their friends / visitors and the long italian / maltese lunches π
