Archier

Originally composed of three architects with Victorian and Tasmanian roots, Archier grew from a common desire for subtle interior objects which complement their surrounding space. A predilection to explore locally available materials, trades and processes helps drive their design process, paired with ongoing experimentation and prototyping. Archier are proud to use their trades-people and supplier

s as a cohesive network to create their objects, which are thoughtfully made from sustainable timber, brass and steel, using a variety of crafts. Archier's directors are architects Chris Gilbert, Chris Haddad, Josh FitzGerald, along with landscape architect Jon Kaitler who work closesly alongside another three student and graduate architects.

Walkway House, on Victoria’s Bass Coast, is defined by an external galvanised steel walkway that wraps around the upper level and encloses a central courtyard featuring a bespoke curved concrete chimney. Enclosed in steel mesh, native plants will envelope this structure within a few years.

Currently on site in regional Victoria: perched on a rolling, windswept site, Tooborac House is choreographed between monumental granite boulders, using the geology of the land to offer a sense of permanence and protection. This dwelling adopts an agrarian exterior of FC sheeting and perforated metal — a robust, utilitarian shell designed to weather the exposure of the open landscape.

Wonderful to see these special clients move in to this Melbourne project just in time for Christmas. This home has been a mammoth effort, so enormous thanks in particular to , , .cc , Living Landscapes, .a.mi and of course, our clients.
Shot at handover by . With the wet spring and a considerable number of mature plants having been installed, landscape should be enveloping the house within a few months.

Full interior shoot to follow in early 2026.

Nearing completion, this addition navigates complex heritage and street context, tying new and old together through colour, tone and texture.

Designed for a client with a love of sailing, the home becomes a beacon over the ocean. Vertical fins frame views to the sea while shielding the interior from the busy road, balancing openness with privacy.

Form taking shape with this beautiful handmade bricks from Spain. A custom blend, laid in a random bond to minimise wastage, creates a textured surface with subtle variation.

The natural tones echo the surrounding vegetation and landscape, grounding the project in its coastal setting.

Soft light, rich texture. A calm, light-filled bathroom designed in collaboration with .a.mi and .

Full-height curtains provide privacy while filtering daylight, creating a gentle, atmospheric glow. While vibrant blue inner showering nook hides a double shower beneath a tall skylight, creating a space that celebrates the simple act of bathing through shifting light and shadow.

Our innovative designs are focused on material honesty, thermal performance and constructability which is why a prefabricated system was used for this house on a rural property.

A double sided Cheminees Philippe fireplace provides warmth to both the lounge room and the master bedroom - allowing a view of the roaring flames from the comfort of either the couch or the bed!
