Every project is individual and never the same. At M1 Designs we understand that every client is unique and has a specific set of requirements for their project. We offer a specialised and customised service to every customer. The Design and Construction process does not need to be stressful or problematic. A customised design process can be arranged from the beginning to the end of the project. I

t can be tailored to suit the specific needs of the client, site and project. We can communicate with council, consultants and other extended services. Our services allow the client to explore their project both 2-dimensionally and 3-dimensionally. We create a visual link between the design changes and the proposed product. We are able to provide the client with a visual experience of how the project will be perceived once completed.

Often don't get a chance to visit completed projects and see my design work come to life. It's always a pleasure to see all the hard work by all pay off!

The clients came to us with a classic Footscray weatherboard home, that was in need of an upgrade. They didn't want to extend but wanted to update a few internal areas. One was the kitchen and meals zone. We were tasked to design a flexible modern space, one that was open, with more internal storage and benchspace than they had currently.

They wanted to visualise the space prior to the build, with the cabinetry set out for the builders. The crew at are bringing this to life.

The concept rear roof form at our Indented Head project. The gable roof flows from the internal main living areas, through to the external entertaining zone. The roof form continues from each area through to the other, eventually disappearing into an open style pergola. From one area to another the gable is always present, unifying the spaces.

Skylights over the meals area in our finished Greenvale project on point ☀️.

We often get asked where to place skylights and the cost from many clients. Unlike tv shows at the moment, not everyone has an unlimited budget from Velux, and placing 4 skylights in a small room may look amazing but is never a great idea. Essentially you have a hole in your roof that accesses both the heat and cold.

Skylights can cost a minimum between $2k - $5k per light, by the time you consider: the skylight, size, install, carpentry, plastering, flashing, blinds etc. So they add up very quickly!

Skylights also add to significant heat load and loss in a room. This is why understanding both design and energy performance is important. Practicality and Design need to work hand in hand inorder to obtain the best possible outcome. More isn't always the answer 🤔
