Sharing great design to inspire. Between The Rock and River by is a self-sufficient cabin retreat for slowing down, being together, and letting the river set the pace.
Rebuilt on the banks of the Sázava River, this cabin replaces the original structure lost to fire, anchored again on its original stone plinth, now forming both foundation and flood protection.
A place to reset, it opens directly to the river. Slide back the shutter and you are met with water, pines, kingfishers, and the sound of the current moving through the rocks. Inside, warm spruce timber and charred larch define the space, simple, robust, and deeply grounded.
The blackened exterior continues inward through the woodstove, stair, and details, creating a calm, cave-like interior that feels connected to fire, material, and landscape. The layout keeps things intentionally simple: small sleeping spaces upstairs, and a generous, double-height living area below that brings the river and cliffs into one continuous view.
Off-grid and self-sufficient, it runs on a well, wood heating, and stored water systems, designed for presence, not excess.
