Recently many unregistered trades have been completing works beyond their scope and licencing and the recent change from the old Victorian Building Commission to the new Building Plumbing Commission is cracking down on these trades.
Engaging works with an unregistered builder will leave your project vulnerable and uninsured.
In Victoria, you must hire a registered builder (or Building Practitioner) if your domestic building work requires a building permit, or if the total value of the project (including labor, materials, and GST) exceeds $10,000.
Please ask your builder for proof of registration. Qualifications does not mean that they are licenced.
