Indirect light refers to lighting that is not directly shining on an object or surface. Instead, it is diffused or reflected off other surfaces to create a more ambient and softer illumination.

Indirect light (or uplight) is usually more even and less harsh than direct light, which can be beneficial for creating a cosy and inviting atmosphere in a home.

Of the five types of light, indirect light is the most misunderstood, so, over on the blog, I give you an understanding of what it’s all about and how to create it and where to use it - simply follow the link in our bio

Lighting a dressing room properly is about far more than making it bright. The right light needs to feel soft, even and comfortable, while still allowing you to clearly see colours, textures and every detail inside the space.

For the dressing room in our Glass House Project, we used linear LED throughout the joinery and ceiling to create a beautiful wash of diffused light around the entire room. Integrated above the hanging rails and surrounding the central island, the lighting reaches deep into every shelf, drawer and wardrobe section without creating harsh shadows.

We also specified high CRI lighting (CRI90+) to ensure clothing colours appear natural and accurate, an important detail that makes a huge difference in spaces like this.

If you’re planning a Walk-In Robe or Closet, we’ve shared some helpful lighting tips and ideas over on the blog, simply follow the link in our bio .

Understanding how light fittings behave is one of the biggest challenges when it comes to evaluating and choosing the right light for your home.

It doesn’t help that manufacturers often present their data differently, and not all of it is entirely accurate. Some of it is simply glamorous marketing dressed up as fact.

To help you cut through the noise and focus on what really matters, I’ve narrowed it down to six key measurements of light behaviour. These will help you effectively compare fittings and make informed choices.

It’s all over on the blog!
‘Great Lighting Design Starts With Understanding How Light Fittings Behave.’

Also our step-by-step design guide bundle will help you plan the lighting in your home with confidence.

Directional lighting gets a bad rep because of the inappropriate use of downlights as general lighting in our homes.

But when used with consideration for what you want to see, a lighting design with well placed directional light can work magic.

Over on the blog I give you lots of tips and advice on how to use directional light - simply follow the link in our bio .

Yes, indirect light (up-light) can be functional, as I’ve demonstrated this before. Indirect light integrated above robes or cupboards will provide more than enough brightness to see inside them. It’s all the light a smaller bedroom will need, and will avoid obstructing a fan.

The profile we chose creates high levels of illumination without protruding into the room. When the lights are off, they’re discreet, almost like a shadow line or an inverted cornice.

One of the easiest and most cost effective ways to ensure you can clearly see everything in your robe is to run light vertically within the cabinetry, allowing light to wash evenly across every shelf.

But the quality of the light is just as important as the placement. Make sure your lighting is at least CRI90 or more (the measurement of colour produced by a light source), so colours, textures and details appear as they truly are.

Our clients’ favourite feature in their living room is the small aperture downlights placed close to the stone above the fireplace. These lights enhance the stone’s depth and illuminate the fireplace area, making it vibrant in both summer and winter.

We then completed the space with low-level linear under the floating cabinetry and beautiful Tubby pendants, matching the one in the kitchen, creating a cohesive look throughout the home.

To meet the functional needs of this young family, there are also lights in the ceiling for reading on the couch and for the kids to play games while the family enjoys this part of the home.

Lumens is the term used to describe the total amount of light emitted by a light source, while wattage/watts merely indicates the amount of energy it uses.

As lighting becomes more and more energy-efficient, the same number of lumens is being achieved with lower and lower wattages.

Over on the blog I explain lumens and how much light you might need in a room depending on its size - simply follow the link in our bio
