PAST PACE | The Icon

With its bold stacked forms and unmissable colour, The Icon earned the nickname "the Lego building" almost instantly. And it stuck. Bright, playful, impossible to ignore – it was never meant to blend in. Eleven years on, it's still turning heads and sparking conversation at the St Kilda junction.

What we loved about this project: it proved that daring design can become deeply loved. The Icon didn't just get built – it became part of how people see St Kilda. That's what design-led development should do.

Five years across Sunshine, Flemington, Cremorne, Coburg and now Fabbrica.

"Spotting the fire before anyone needs an extinguisher" - that's Chris's approach as a Supervisor on our construction sites. It's about seeing what's happening across the site, anticipating what comes next, and keeping momentum going with mountain-goat sure-footedness.

Whether managing a handful of apartments or 90 at handover, Chris coordinates trades, monitors progress, solves problems and ensures every finish meets our standard. Fast-paced, unpredictable, and that's exactly what he loves.

Congratulations, Chris, and thank you for five years of bringing it all together.

Long before Fabbrica, 369 Gore Street was the Argyle Shirt Factory, then home to the Lifesavers Confectionery Company, then a string of other makers and manufacturers who kept the building working. We didn't want that history to disappear, so we've restored the original facade and built the residences in behind it. The street keeps its heritage character, Fitzroy keeps its shape, and Fabbrica gets to sit inside a building with a memorable past.
