25,600 homes in Victoria will be reserved exclusively for first-home buyers. That's a genuine shift in the supply story. 🔥
The federal and Victorian governments have signed a housing deal supporting more than 66,000 new properties across the state, with 25,600 set aside for first-home buyers. Victoria joins South Australia, the ACT, Tasmania, Western Australia and Queensland, together expected to deliver about 180,000 homes, including more than 67,000 for first-home buyers.
Here's what makes this one different: the money is going where projects actually stall. The federal government is providing $2.5 billion ($2 billion in concessional loans and $499 million in grants), with Victoria contributing at least $499 million, and it's aimed squarely at roads, water, sewerage and electricity connections.
Approvals aren't the bottleneck. Infrastructure is. Fund that, and homes get built.
The 25,600 homes will be spread across 20 locations including Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo, a mix of houses and apartments, with the first homes expected from 2027.
Two honest things to know:
• These homes are only the start, and delivery takes time
• Availability will be limited, so eligibility and finance need to be sorted before stock appears, not after
That lead time is your advantage. Use it to confirm what you qualify for, get your finance organised, and plan whether you're buying established or building new.
At BPG Acquisition Agency, we help first-home buyers across Australia, including Victoria, from buyer advocacy and auction bidding through to in-house building services for new builds and custom homes.
