Australia's fly ash and slag supplies are tightening. NSW's coal power stations close within two years. So what happens to the cementitious materials our industry has relied on for decades? 🤔

At ASCP's 2026 Pavements Technical Forum yesterday, Matt Eifermann took the stage to answer that question with real data, not theory.

🧱 Eifers™ has been trialling calcined clay as a supplementary cementitious material across live Victorian projects. Sourced locally at Pittong, VIC. Blended with GL or GP cement. Mix-designed and verified against AS1379.

✅ On the Level Crossing Removal Project at Newport, a 25% replacement mix performed to spec. No cracking. Unchanged placement and finish. Full compliance with VicRoads 610.

Matt didn't just share the wins. He was upfront about where the work continues too. Higher-grade shotcrete mixes need a longer maturity window. Replacement ratios are still being refined.

That's the standard we hold ourselves to. Real trials. Real job sites. Real numbers. 💪

🏆 Winners are grinners.

On Friday night at Metropolis Southbank, Eifers was announced as the 2026 CCF Victoria Earth Awards Winner in the $5M to $10M Project Value Category for the Supply and Installation of Lightweight Concrete Fill, delivered for the Eastern Freeway Burke to Tram Alliance.

📊 More than 46,533 cubic metres of Ecofil™ lightweight cellular concrete. 15 active pour locations across the corridor. Zero non-conformance reports. Zero safety incidents. Approximately 2,004 tonnes of CO₂-e avoided through smarter material choices.

🏗️ Produced entirely on site using our custom-built CC200 Ecofil Production Unit, the only production unit of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

🙏 A huge thank you to the EBTA alliance team, Laing O'Rourke, Symal, WSP, and Arcadis, for the collaboration and confidence throughout the delivery. Special mention to Uchin Alwis and the wider EBTA project team we worked alongside every day.

🚧 Five days. One freeway closure. No room for delays.

🚴 As part of the Eastern Freeway Upgrade in Doncaster, a 55-metre-long trench was constructed across the freeway to relocate 18 power cables, making way for a new walking and cycling bridge.

🟢 With the clock ticking, Eifers backfilled the trench using 473.68m³ of Ecofill 55, delivering the speed and performance the project demanded.

⏱️ Just 10 hours after placement, the Ecofill 55 was proof rolled, helping keep the project on track within the tight closure window.

🤝 Another example of delivering time-critical infrastructure through the right solution, at the right time.
