A good before and after can look simple, but the finish only works when the preparation underneath is done properly.

These steel planter boxes and water feature had started to show rust and wear, so we scraped back the affected areas, treated the rust, applied 𝗗𝘂𝗹𝘂𝘅 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗿, then finished with three coats of 𝗗𝘂𝗹𝘂𝘅 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗘𝗽𝗼𝘅𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗹.

The result is a much cleaner finish, with the steel properly protected rather than simply painted over.

Small maintenance jobs like this can make a big difference to an outdoor area, especially when the original features are still worth keeping.

And here’s 𝗚𝗲𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗮 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 going onto the walls.

After sharing the colour reveal earlier this week, you can now see how it starts to read once it’s out of the tin and across a larger space.

This is why we always say whites aren’t simply white. Geisha White has a subtle warmth that keeps this hallway feeling light and fresh without becoming too stark.

In a long space like this, colour also has a big effect on how the area feels. A lighter wall colour helps reflect available light and keeps the hallway feeling open, while the warmer undertone works nicely with the timber flooring.

We’re still in progress here, with the floors protected and another section being rolled, but you can already see the difference taking shape.

And here’s where 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘃𝗶𝘂𝘀 𝗢𝗮𝗸 ended up.

We’re using it underfoot, giving this entry a much darker, cleaner finish while keeping the colour practical for an area that gets plenty of use.

The product is Berger Jet Dry Non Slip Flat, so it isn’t just about the colour. It’s designed for walking surfaces and provides added slip resistance once applied correctly.

You can already see how much the deeper grey changes the space. It gives the lighter surrounds more definition and creates a solid base for the entrance without competing with the rest of the home.

There’s still a little more work to do here, but Octavius Oak is starting to show why we chose it.

Another paint reveal, and this time we’re moving away from the brighter colours.

This is 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘃𝗶𝘂𝘀 𝗢𝗮𝗸 𝗯𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿, a deep grey from their Jet Dry colour range.

For this job we’re using Berger Jet Dry Non Slip Flat, which is made for areas underfoot where you want a hard-wearing finish with added slip resistance.

It’s a good reminder that choosing paint isn’t only about getting the colour right. Where it’s being used matters just as much. The surface, exposure, foot traffic and finish all play a part in choosing the right product for the job.

𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲.

A front door does more than provide a place to put the key. It can help define the main entry, draw your eye towards it, and make the whole front of the house feel more welcoming.

That becomes even more important when an entrance could otherwise blend into the rest of the facade. Using a contrasting colour creates a clear focal point. It gives visitors a visual cue and makes it obvious where they are meant to go before they even reach the door.
It can make a big difference to kerb appeal too. The entrance is one of the first parts of a home people notice, so a well-maintained, considered front door can change how the whole property feels and contribute to its perceived value.

Here, Tropical Bird against the white weatherboards gives the entry its own identity without overpowering the house's character.

It is a relatively small area of paint, but it has changed the way the entire entrance reads.

Some colours never go out of style.

𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 is one of them.

This deep charcoal has become a favourite on Australian homes because it adds contrast without overpowering the rest of the colour scheme. It works beautifully with crisp whites, natural timbers and lighter renders, giving a clean, contemporary finish.

For this project, Monument was chosen for the rendered feature, creating definition and helping the architectural details stand out.
The paint used was Dulux Weathershield Matt, designed for Australian conditions with a durable, low-sheen finish that helps protect exterior surfaces from harsh weather while maintaining colour for longer.

Yesterday we shared the colour.
Today, here's the transformation.

Gold Rush has given this entrance a completely new personality. Warm, welcoming and full of character, it proves that a single feature can make a lasting impression.

Some colours are too good to use just once.

After seeing Gold Rush transform the front door, the homeowner decided to carry the same colour through to the screen door as well.

It's a simple change, but it creates a more cohesive entrance and ties the whole frontage together.
