Proud to have some of our team alongside me at the Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Housing Awards.

We didn’t take home an award, but our team came away with plenty:
• Fresh ideas from the projects recognised.
• A greater appreciation for the planning, teamwork and detail behind award-winning homes.
• Motivation to keep learning and improving our own work.

As a builder and business owner, I want our people to see what others are achieving, learn from their peers and feel proud to be part of this industry.

Sharing a night together away from the pressure of the working week matters too. Our people put enormous effort into our projects, on site and behind the scenes. They deserve to be part of these celebrations.

Congratulations to all the winners and finalists, and to the trades, suppliers and teams behind every project recognised.

Plenty to be proud of. Plenty to learn. Back to work with fresh ideas.

Three safety failures putting building businesses at risk of fines of $100,000 or more.

• Workers without current White Cards.
• Missing fall protection.
• SWMS which fail to cover the work underway.

Your paperwork must match the job. Your safety controls must be in place.

October is National Safe Work Month. This year’s theme is “Safe work is for life.”

Builders and supervisors, walk your site with your team. Workers, speak up when protection is missing.

Watch the video, share with your crew and check these three areas before work starts.

A sneak peek from today’s recording of the President’s Podcast. 🎙️

I had the pleasure of sitting down with whose story connects AFLW football with a career in architectural drafting at Metricon Homes.

Her background in construction made Emma a great guest for the series. I’m looking forward to sharing our conversation and introducing you to the person behind the football career.

This photo gives you a look inside the room ahead of our podcast launch.

Across the series, I’ll be sitting down with:
• Award-winning apprentices and builders.
• Tradespeople and suppliers.
• Specialist guests with experience and perspectives relevant to our industry.

People from different backgrounds, sharing how they started, what they’ve learnt and the work they’re proud of.

Thank you, Emma, for sharing your story.

The first episodes are coming soon. Follow along for release dates and more guest previews.

Today, one of my closest mates, John, turns 60.

These photos were taken at my President’s inaugural dinner. On the night, I spoke about the role John played in my life long before business or the building industry.

We met at primary school. School was difficult for me, and John looked out for me when I needed someone. In many ways, he saved me. We later lived together and grew up side by side.

Years later, John joined our business and learnt the industry from the ground up. More than 13 years later, he is an expert in waterproofing. His knowledge comes from years of turning up, solving problems and taking pride in every job.

There is a lesson here for younger people entering any industry.

Knowledge, experience and time are irreplaceable. Consistency matters. Skills grow when you stay committed, keep learning and do the work properly.

Long-term commitment goes both ways. Employers must respect, support and invest in good people. Employees must bring consistency, effort and pride. When both sides honour the commitment, the workplace becomes stronger, the work improves and clients receive a better result.

I take my hat off to John. I hope we are lucky enough to have him with us for the rest of his working life. At 60, he still keeps up with, and often overtakes, the best of us.

Happy 60th, mate. You are a legend. Thank you for a lifetime of friendship and more than 13 years of loyalty.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandads , nonnos and father figures out there. ❤️ Thank you for the love, the patience, the lessons and the time you give your families.
I hope your day includes:
• A good feed and plenty of laughs.
• A few terrible dad jokes.
• Someone else doing the cleaning up!
To everyone missing their dad, and the fathers missing a child, you’re in my thoughts too. Sending you love on a day which brings different feelings for each of us.
Enjoy your day, fellas. Hopefully the only thing you’re asked to fix today is another plate of food! 😊

A big thank you to everyone back home in Australia who reached out after my recent post offering rugby boots, jerseys and sporting equipment for the young people I met in Fiji. 🇦🇺🇫🇯

The response was fantastic.

As the offers started coming in, though, we quickly realised that collecting, sorting and getting all that equipment over to Fiji was becoming a fairly big logistical exercise and potentially costing more than the gear itself.

So rather than overcomplicate it, we decided to do something that could make an immediate difference.

We donated funds directly to support the Under 16s at Ratu Navula College, helping families with uniforms and school merchandise and allowing the money to be spent locally where it is needed.

I was incredibly humbled to receive this certificate of appreciation from the school, but the recognition isn’t what this is about.

It’s about giving young people a hand and hopefully making things just that little bit easier for families doing their best.

There’s also something I really like about the money being spent locally supporting the kids while also putting the money back into the Fijian community.

To everyone in Australia who messaged, offered equipment or simply said, “How can I help?” — thank you. The willingness to get behind these kids was pretty special.

And I don’t think this will be the last chapter. I’d like to continue building the relationship with Ratu Navula College and see where we can help in a practical and sustainable way going forward.

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best one.

What a night celebrating the very best of Victoria’s building and construction industry.

Congratulations to every winner and finalist at the 2026 Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Construction Awards. 🏆

As I said on the night, excellence is never achieved by one person alone. It is built by skilled teams working together with professionalism, dedication and pride.

Every leader started somewhere, and many progressed because someone gave them encouragement, an opportunity and shared their experience.

Now it is our responsibility to do the same by continuing to invest in our apprentices, young tradies and future leaders.

Well done to everyone recognised and to every person behind these outstanding projects. You should all be proud.
